Best OS for the Bold?
I've been away for a couple of weeks and now that I'm home, and have access to a pc (IBM ThinkPad), I'm going to update the OS on my Bold. I'm still running the original .125
What's been the best OS for you? I recall some folks upgrading to .147 and immediately downgrading back a notch for stability. My plan is to go straight to .162 unless someone here warns me off. What's everybody running on their Bold now? I made this a poll to do a fast tally of what's popular, and hopefully, most stable. I left the choices as 14x and 15x because with all the beta versions folks were using I didn't know what was more popular. Seemed to be a plethora of sub-versions of each of these series. |
Wirelessly posted (Bold)
Go for 162 and don't look back. By far the best v out there. Apparently there is one higher than the 162, in the wild. 162 is also officially released by Rogers as well. |
.167 has been the best for me so far.
|
.167 hasn't been released by carriers, correct? Just checking as I am waiting to install it once it is released by carriers.

I tried the .15x releases, and had problems galore with wifi. I went back to .147 for a but, then tried .162. Was the best OS I have had so far... then I found .167, and I have been there for the past week or so without issue, and improved battery life.
I recommend .162 if you want official, and .167 if you want the best that's readily available. |
I'm on the 125 and would love to upgrade but i wouldn't have the first clue in changing OS's....:cry:

Yep... updating is daunting if you've never done it, but it can be done. Once you get through it, you'll look back and realize that it wasn't so difficult after all. soupandsandwich is right... step by step instructions are available in the link he provided, and if you run into trouble or just have questions, come back to this site and ask away. Plenty will be able to help you, but there really isn't anything to worry about.
|
Updating is a breeze, just don't touch the phone until DM says is complete, don't connect the phone via USB hub, and don't update during stormy weather that may result in power outage.
Other than that, its a piece of cake. Just follow the steps soupandsandwich provided. |

I now have an issue tething to my macbook though, tethering on the mini9 with leopard is un affected though... im guessing i have to rebuild the tether with the MPB... actually going to do that now |

.167 battery life is a bit worse, and it has a huge memory leak

Not everybody has the same user experience or runs the same apps on their device. There's no wrong answer here. |
Agreed, it just makes it difficult to decide on upgrading to the next OS when there are such different opinions. But then, I suppose there are so many variables that it isn't really feasible to expect anything else.
