This OS will work on any 8707
1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2 and can be downloaded from the link above or Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

The earlier version of can be found HERE
The Chinese stuff works - but the japanese input method is not reliable (in our experience) on this OS across different countries.

We loaded this in UK and it worked fine on UK Vodafone Mobiles and words entered in English e.g. Watachi or kanji translated into Japanese when you pressed space after the word. I tried the same version in Germany on a Vodafone DE 8707v and I also tried again with an Australian derivation of the OS and while it loaded successfully, Japanese Input refused to work. Chinese input did work however on the one trial where I tried it out.

UPDATE After testing:

The Chinese stuff works fine but the Romaji Japanese input method on this OS does not in Germany on an 8707v that previousy had Namimail. We got it to work in UK on a brand new device with Vodafone UK.

1) Is there anything in the alx files or Device.xml file that might prohibit use in another Vodafone National Sales Area? Can I delete these references to get it to work safely. For instance I noticed Japanese language settings were not automatically refered to in Device.xml when I loaded. But even when I added them manually it did not work. I have Desktop Manager 4.3 for all this- I previously tried on 4.2.2 but that did not work either.

2) I previously had Namimail installed on the device I am now testing for Japanese input. Is it possible my previous software could set something on my device that would prohibit use of any alternate way of doing Japanese input. The device we loaded successfully in the UK had not previously had Namimail loaded.
