Does anyone know if there is a way to put the nyc subway and bus maps onto your blackberry and make them easy to read?

Have you tried MTA's mobile site?
MTA - Mobile

Another option:
New York Geo

Plus there are more results that I got through a simple Google search.

Google maps has transit directions. That's the only thing I can think of.

You might also try Hop Stop.

Default MTA Info site and tube sw

Thank you, but whenever I tried to download the subway pdf map from the mta website, I get a 500 internal server error. I wanted to avoid spending money on software. I am looking for something that perhaps someone has created on their own. I know someone made one for the iphone. I will keep looking. The software would be fine, but I dont think it is worth paying for.

Default Google maps has not included New York yet

Thank you. Google maps has not made it around to New York yet. Guess it is probably going to take the longest.

Default no connection in subway

The problem with all those links is that they require an internet connection... something that one does not have the luxury of when using the NYC subway.

And while one can download and open the PDF version of the NYC subway map, it is far too blurry to be readable.

Having recently moved to NYC this is a real head-scratcher for me

But presumably you could use Hop Stop to generate directions before you went down into the Subway and then you could just keep the browser window open on your Curve and follow the directions.

Or you could, you know, use the map that's in every subway car and station.

The only time I use a subway map on my BB or iPhone is when I am no where near a subway and need to find the closest one to where I am, and of course I have a network connection at that point.
