Default Tasks, Timezones, and BES Issue

Please Login to Remove!

OK, I think I figured out what is going on. I am in Arizona. My BES server is in Chicago. I have my outlook and BB set to arizona time zone. When I change a due date on a task to the next day in outlook. For example:

Task with due date 10-1. Change to 10-2. I look on BB and it still says 10-1, but with a time of 10p instead on 12a.

I think what is happening is the BES is adjusting my tasks for the time zone difference as it goes from outlook to the BES. Then from BES to BB, it is not adjusting back the time zone.

Hope I didn't lose you.

A couple of days ago, I opened each task on the BB and changed the time zone from central to arizona. Most were set to central. (Not sure why). Maybe I should change them back? Thoughts? And if I did, what if I create a new task on BB, it defaults to arizona, then will that mess up?

Surely someone has some input on this. It is driving me nuts. My outlook shows tasks do today. I look at my BB, and those same tasks show yesterday, 10pm. Help please!

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

This is my SWAG: I'm betting there is nothing you can do on your end.

What does BES admin say?

If you post in BESadmin forum you'll get much quicker/faster/better responses. I'd move this thread for you but I don't have 'da power'

Lots of the besadmins ignore 'general' due to poor SNR

Assuming you've got Exchange:

So you changed it in Outlook and it does not update on the BB? It this only for tasks or also for Calender appointments?
Time got changed but not the date?
2 hours ahead or..... 22 hours behind? (really weird)

I'll set this up in a test environment see what happens. Give me some time.

Thanks Scorpius! - I do use exchange. Calendar is not affected, only tasks. I set task date for "x" in outlook, then on the BB it will show as "x-2 hours".
Take note in outlook, you can only set the date, not the time. So in BB you see it as Date, 12:00 AM. That is what it should look like in BB, is Date, 12:00 AM. But mine shows as Date - 1 day, 10:00 PM.

Lets summarize before i go to sleep (it's 23:34 over here )

First.. I can change both day and time in my tasks in Outlook 2003.

Time zone difference is two hours: Arizona = Chicago - 2

You create a tasks in Outlook (Arizona time). On the BB it arrives as - 2 (Arizona - 2). 2 hours behind on Arizona and 4 on Chicago.

You change it again in Outlook and the same happens again? Now it becomes 4 hours behind on Arizona and 6 on Chicago?

It does not explain the 10pm/12am but I'll think this over.

Also i still have to think about :

That Central zone thingie keeps bugging me.

Like I said I need some time to test. Will probably be in the weekend.

And then it hit me ..... at least I think.... Not sure but....

Your Outlook is 2 hours before your Exchange server! Outlook updates directly on the Exchange server. Where its gets updates in Central time. The BES only sees a item it needs to retrieve or update in......Central time and not in Mountain time.

So maybe it is a Outlook/Exchange problem and not BES related. Still I am not sure. You'll here from me after the weekend.

As a last note... What versions and Service Pack levels are your Outlook client and Exchange Server?

But remember calendar entrys behave correctly. I can set up a meeting request with people in Chicago and it shows on thier calendar as CST and mine as MST, BB and outlook. All works.
It is only on tasks. I use outlook 07 and I can set a time on the "reminder", but not the due date. Let me clarify, due date on the task is the issue here. I typically uses tasks to remind me to do something on a particular day, no reminders.

Understood... and you are right. I cannot change the due time, only the reminder time.

And yes we're only discussing tasks.

Take a remote peek with for example Outlook Web Acces and see what the tasks looks like on the Exchange server. It should clarify if it is a Outlook/Exchange problem or not.

And now I am really off to bed.
