Is it possible to load a document on the BB without a data card?

Yes. Email them to yourself or use Media Manager to transfer the file.

1. Navigate to C:/program files/common files/research in motion/loader files/<your BBModel and OS version>/
2. Rename DocumentsToGo.alx to DocumentsToGo.old.
3. Install the OS (or continue with my edits as outlined in the Optimize your BB Memory thread.)

This way when Apploader is run, the loader will pick up Docs to Go as a 3rd party app and back it up and restore it normally. If you don't delete or rename the DocumentsToGo.alx file the loading process will downgrade the Docs To Go to the version included in the OS. We'll have to do this until RIM includes the new version in the OS packages.

Good luck!
Couple questions. I just loaded docs 2 go. I held off initially due to space reasons.

- Is it ok to delete BB maps (i never use this app)? I am aksing this in conjunction with JC's instructions above. I renamed Docs to go.old but when I hooked up my BB, the action showed as "downgrade"

- Will this still downgrade docs 2 go even though I changed the name? I wanted to make sure before I remove anything.

Thanks

It sounds like you didn't properly rename the file. Do you have file extensions hidden? It's possible that it's now called DocumentsToGo.old.alx.

Try moving the file to another folder.

You are exactly right John. I had file extensions hidden. It is now, "DocumentsToGo.old" File type is now "Old" versus "alx" file size 3K.

Can I remove BB maps?

As always, thanks for the help!!

I didn't register DTG because I was waiting for the official OS release. If I register now, will I be able to reload it if I wipe my BB? or do you only get 1 chance to download the excel to go?thanks

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Yes, you can reload it. However, when you update your OS again, the new OS will want to downgrade again. Deleting the documentstogo.alx prevents that and you won't need to download again. If you wipe your BB then, yes, you'll have to re-download. However, you can backup 3rd party apps and easily get them all back after a wipe. Do a search of the forum for 'backup 3rd party apps". And you'll find my how-to.

I had a strange one this morning. I updated a friend's 8830 to 4.5.0.51. All went fine including loading the Docs2go. I went out and registered her 8830 and got the update that includes Sheets2go. Copied over a blank sheet & doc from Office to the media card. Open up Sheet2go and can navigate to the Media card and open the blank sheet. No problems. Did the same with Presentation. All good. Try it with Word2go... and I get an error of "trying to open a connection to a location inside the firewal and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy. I reset all the firewall permissions on all of Documents2go to allow. Still no access for Word.

I can't figure out why one module of Docs2go is restricted and the other 2 are not and work just fine.

Any ideas?

Whenever I try to edit a file in documents to go, I get the following error and then it crashes:
"Not enough storage space to perform this action. Please free up some space and try again."

I have 1.7gb in my memory card free, 11mb in flash, and the files I'm trying to edit are 371kb (word), and 15kb(sheets). The files were originally created with office xp and office 2003 respectively. I emailed these files to myself and saved them on my media card. Anyone know what may be wrong? Thanks.

Anyway, on the device itself, to determine what version BES is being used?

Default Still confused

BB8830
Sprint
BIS

4.5.0.51 loaded and running.
DTG loaded activated and upgraded STG icon showing. I did not pay the $69 yet. I'm on the 30 day trial.
I get an .XLS file from work via email and it opens fine in mail but I believe BB Attachment service is handling the spread sheet.
I don't see any way to set DTG as the default attachment handler.
I don't see any docs in the media card or device memory file in DTG , probably cause I don't how or where to save an email attachment. Any assistance would be helpful. Thanks John

Here's my problem...I emailed a blank excel sheet to myself, then tried to open it as an attachment but DocsToGo says it doesn't support Office 2007 files. This is the only excel I have on my pc. Any thoughts of how to circumvent this? Thanks
