Pearl -- BBSmart Shortcuts and LaunchPads question

Hello all.
First off, I just want to say this forum has been important in helping me learn all of the "nooks and crannies" of my Blackberry
Anyway, i am in the process of switching from an 8703e (Verizon) to a 8130 Pearl (Verizon). Currently, I use the shortcuts to access applications religiously (i.e. B for Browser, N for Messenger, L for Calendar, etc.). From what I have read, this is not available for the Pearl, however, there are third party applications that help bridge the gap.
My question is, do either of the two named programs do this? I was reading there descriptions and it looks like you still have to launch the program (via the side key) and then use a shortcut key. Is this the case or can I set it to do one button shortcuts. If not, is there anything that will accomplish this?
Yes, this is true. The shortcuts are only available on qwerty devices and don't work on the Pearl. I've used both Blackberry Shortcuts and Launchpads. BB Shortcuts lets you create shortcuts to specific actions (email a specific person, visit a specific website, etc...) and also functions as a quick application launcher. As far as version 1.1 goes, I don't believe there are keypad shortcuts.
Launchpads is much the same. The configurable shortcuts to specific actions are limited to 10 buttons. The best part of it, though, is that there are built-in keypad shortcuts for actions (create new calendar entry, create new contact, open bluetooth settings, etc...). It's not the same as the native shortcuts on the qwerty devices and it's not global in that those keypad shortcuts only work within Launchpads.
Give either one a try. You won't get the same functionality as the native shortcuts but it's a decent compromise.
