Default More GMail weirdness

Please Login to Remove!

I have my BB 7100t POPing from my GMail account. I also have my Apple Mail client doing the same. Prior to the upgrade, mail would show up in both places.

Now, some shows up on the BB, and some in Mail.

It looks like whoever checks latest gets what's there, and then marking the mail as having been read in a manner that the other client respects.

I'd like to avoid forwarding, as I like the new from: address feature (so I can reply to mailing lists from the BB).

Any ideas?

does either client delete messages from the server?
If you make sure that the BB web client and your apple mail do not delete messages from the server, you should get your mail in both places.
I have my Outlook at work leave messages on the server, but have the option set to delete from the server when my deleted messages folder is emptied.

Interesting problem. I know that messages sent to TMO BBs are marked as read in Yahoo, and I suppose the same might be true in Gmail, but it's a bit odd that Gmail no longer POPs e-mail rec'd by Apple Talk. Since you're enjoying the Gmail integration w/ your BB, my short-term proposal would be to stop Apple Talk from downloading Gmail, and stick to the web interface for now.

Right, but if I don't set it up an account in BIS, I won't have that account as an option as a From: address when replying.

I suppose I can set it up the GMail account in BIS, have it not forward an email to the BB, and have GMail do the forward.

That way, I should be able to reply to mailing lists that check the From: address.

Joe, that's a clever approach (so much so that it took me a minute to figure out what you were proposing). I take it that you don't want to stop your Apple client from polling your Gmail account? The Gmail web interface + notifier works well enough for me, but I don't know what the experience is like on Macs.

In any event, I don't think you'll have to engage in this BIS + forwarding exercise unless you want your tmo.blackberry.net account to have a different (i.e., non-Gmail) "sent from" address. Although the BIS apparently allows you to set only a "reply to" address, the mail you send through that account actually appears to be "sent from" the address that you set. I'm still forwarding my Gmail to my tmo.blackberry.net acct, and the BB mail that I send through tmo.blackberry.net still appears to be "sent from" my Gmail acct. (In fact, my tmo.blackberry.net addr is no longer buried in the message header like it used to be before the upgrade).

Of course, if you have multiple accounts being forwarded to tmo.blackberry.net (and want to be able to send mail "from" each of these accounts), or if you want to be able to send mail "from" your tmo.blackberry.net address, I think your plan is a good idea (assuming you're stuck on your Apple client).

Well, that didn't work. Even though the mail was not being forwarded to the BB, it was still being accessed and marked as read.

What I ended up having to do was pick up a second Yahoo account, and subscribe to the same groups. One is being sent to GMail; the other is not, but is being polled by the BB.

It would have been simpler to just subscribe to those groups with one of my "real" addresses, but Yahoo is such a spam pit, I don't want any of those addresses showing up there.
