Default UMA unusable in OS 4.5

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone have any ideas why UMA would not work continuously on only some 8320's with TMobile service after moving to 4.5? The condition is such that a call is received or placed over UMA and the connection is made. During the call the voice suddenly becomes choppy, then intermittent, and then nothing but silence.

The phone worked just fine on the official tmobile 8320 release.

On the same network at work I have friends on OS 4.5 that work just fine over UMA.

This happens on both releases 55 and 69 of the 4.5 OS.

Thanks,

No - this occurs at work and at home. Only started after going to version 4.5. Reverting back to the official release and UMA is just fine.

My home phones are VOIP and they work with no issues when I have this problem.

The other people in the office on 4.5 are using UMA no problem when my calls fail.

What process do you mean by a device wipe? When I install the 4.5 OS it erases all apps, backs up my configuration and installs all new apps.

Is a device wipe something different?

yes, search the forum here for JL_Cmder and use that to wipe the device and reset to factory, then reinstall the OS that has been officially released by a carrier and see if that works...

And also, you may ask your co-workers what particular version of 4.5 they are running. I know I've read about many issues with UMA at certain 4.5 revisions.

OK - was able to get jl cmder to connect. The instructions say to remove the battery. When I do this I cannot connect. Re-inserting the battery I was able to connect using the utility as the blackberry was booting up. This brought me to the 507 error and now I am re-installing with version 69 to see if a clean install helps. I will try using UMA before doing a restore of my data if possible.

Thanks,

To provide an update:

I wiped the device; re-installed OS 4.5.0.69; same issue. I can place/receive calls over UMA but the conversation drops after about a minute or so.

Very frustrating. Still only my phone. Others with this build and an 8320 on the same network can use UMA with no issues.

Yes - this is obviously an option. But for curious people it does not address what might be causing the issue.

Default UMA used to drop off after 5 minutes at the most

I used to have the same issue. The same fix may fix your's too.

Open the 'Manage Connections' icon
Open the 'WiFi Connections' from the menu list
hit your Blackberry menu key and select 'WiFi Diagnostics' from that menu
Scroll down to the section entitled 'UMA'
about the 4th line down in the 'UMA' section if it doesn't have 'punc.t-mobileuncs.com:14001' next to 'Reg. UNC Address:', then call T-Mobile support and ask them to register your phone on the UMA network.

I had nothing listed next to 'Reg. UNC Address:' and my UMA and WiFi browsing would stop after about 5 minutes. Call T-Mo, the tech support gal said she would register UMA on my phone and the only significant change (other than UMA and WiFi browsing not dropping out) was the 'Reg. UNC Address:' was not showing 'punc.t-mobileuncs.com:14001'

If that's not the issue, then you could try comparing your WiFi Diagnostics with a co-worker that doesn't have a problem and see what's different.

If you hit the Blackberry menu key while viewing the 'WiFi Diagnostics' screen and select 'Email Report' it will copy all your WiFi Diagnostics to an email where you can easilly email it to a your co-worker to compare.

I will need to re-install 4.5 and check for this. I rolled back to 4.2.2 to test UMA and it works like a champ again!

Strange behavior why only this phone would have the issue when others work fine over UMA from the same network.

I see nothing like that under WiFi Diagnostics. The entire UMA section consists of 4 lines:

Connection Pref: Wi-Fi Preferred
UMA Wi-Fi Available - green checkmark
Connection: green checkmark
Status: UMA Connection Successful.

Nothing with a URL.

I just re-installed 4.5 after going back to 4.2.2 I guess I can test to see if it works this time and carries forward any configuration.

Thanks,
