CPU Cycle Draining Battery?
Please Login to Remove!
Help! My Bold is going bonkers. The clock icon is on the screen all the time, and causing my Bold to drain the battery. It is like there's something running on the background. Everything was fine until 15 minutes ago. No new software installed, running v4.0.6.150.
Anybody with any ideas?

Have you tried the hard reset? Remove the battery from the device (while still powered on) for 30 seconds, then reinsert.

Try to check if you have any other program running at background ? Like in holster program running at background ?

Yup, did all of that to no avail! Any other ideas? I think I got a bummed Bold. I used the "Diagnostic" tool from RIM and the LED is supposedly not working now. Strangely, when rebooting the red LED comes on though

OK, I have discovered what the problem was. It is down to the alert boxes generated by TodoMatrix! I had 4 alerts set on similar time and for some reason, it must have clogged up the system by not queuing the alerts properly. I am relieved but also not happy. An email is going to Rexwireless!

I've run into about four people who have had the same problem and non of them use TodoMatrix!
The only solution I've found (not sure if its a temporary one though) is to wipe the device and restore your data. So far, nobody has complained further.
It's not tied to a particular OS version either. I've seen the problem on 126 and 147

well i had to restore my firmware system completly for a newer version and apparently it fixed I hope it does!

I've delt with the same problem last week and ended up wiping the system and reloading the software again. Haven't had any problems since.

I was preparing to restore the OS and plugged into DM, and then suddenly the alert boxes from TodoMatrix showed up! When I clicked them off, the clock icon disappeared.
Funny thing was when I was closing off all opened apps yesterday including TodoMatrix, the alert boxes did not go off. Not sure how it all works but the alert boxes from TodoMatrix must be very persistent! So persistent that even with battery pull and a dead battery when powered up again, it still sticks.

Just to update everyone. Rexwireless got back to me and explained what could have been the probable cause. The Bold's memory leak could be the culprit and timing was just the cause of it. As the memory was being purged, the alert boxes popped up and caused a fatal crash. At least, this is what I hope really caused it and nothing more serious.
RIM - fix the Bold! It's your flagship product and you are getting too distracted with too many product launches in such a short space of time.

I had the same problem. Mine however was the facebook app. I removed it and voila. I've had nothing but problems with that app lately.

Well, I dropped some money for MemoryUp to keep the memory leakage in check. Really don't understand why can't RIM do something about this but leave us to turn to third-party vendors for solutions.

Im having the same problem as you guys, battery lasting very short time. Im not in a 3G area, only GPRS so maybe its having to work that bit harder trying to find a signal. Im in a very poor area full stop - my orange (uk) signal is forever dropping too.
Interesting what you say about Facebook, I think I will get rid of that and see if it makes any difference.

turn 3g off on your hset, the system will always look for a weak 3g signal over a strong 2g, and 3g really does kill the battery.

Mine did this the other day; i also wasnt getting any e-mails. - i upgraded to 150 to fix the problem - in your case, i would probably downgrade, then re-upgrade again.

OK, here it goes again! Same problem but this time after I installed TwitterBerry (beta 4). Deleted the app but the clock icon continues to appear and cycling the CPU quickly draining the battery. Looks like another wipe at the OS to restore it!

One thing I came across over the weekend - my Media card was hung in "scanning" mode, causing the clock to come up almost all the time. Switched off Media card support, and the device was back to normal. Just something you might want to check.
