Default BIS with Outlook Email, Calendar and Contacts?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I am sure a few variations of this questions has been put forth before but I am hoping if someone here has the answer! Bold looks damn cool, want to get my hands on it.

My company's BES is full, so no hope there. I am wondering of I can sign up for BIS and still somehow get access to outlook's contacts and calendar without having to sync with the desktop manager directly through my PC.

I can currently access to my mail through OWA and my current windows mobile phone can access all 3.

Can Desktop Redirector help?

Thanks!

without BES you need to sync it manually, if you look around you may also found some third party services that offer that, but have not used so I can't comment on those

A hosted BES is the only other solution that I know of.

You must be on BES. The only way to sync calendar and contacts if you use BIS is to use the cable and Intellesync. Wireless requires BES.

Retail options for BIS sync...

BBerrysync - OTA Sync

ThinkPost Communications - Home

And there are also roll-your-own approaches if you're a bit technical.

Also - if your company has activesync available, you could try AstraSync from MailSite - Connect a BlackBerry to a ActiveSync Exchange Server.

Thank you all for your helpful response.
Redflea, can you elaborate a bit more about the roll-your-own approaches? Thanks man!

You can sync your calendar to a google calendar then to your BB using Google's sync programs. I use it and it works just fine.

I started using this last week and I am very happy with it so far. Outlook syncs with Google and Google syncs with BB. All three calendars are synched and it works quite well so far for me.

I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now, and sync 2 devices and an Outlook Calendar to the same Google Calendar... I've even written a how to... You can find it Here:

I don't want to give you too big of an ego but your "how to" was the reason I gave it a try. I am now trying to get my wife to use Google calendars instead of her hand written calendar so we can see each others schedules. Thanks for the how to

Does GMail have a google contacts sync application that will sync the same way the calendar does?

The roll-your-own options I was referring to makes use of third-party sycn apps that you load on your BB, one is the funambol client (free) and another is the syncje client (paid). If set up properly, you can sync contacts, calendar, tasks, I believe, not sure about notes.

A user here (rivviepop - very knowledgeable) has posted about using Funambol (open source client) to do wireless sync:

Wirelessly posted

Google currently does not have a contacts sync program. If you are simply looking to sync outlook contacts, tasks and notes then you could always setup a yahoo account. They have an autosync that will sync your computer to yahoo.I am not sure a hosted bes ****ion will work for you because u have to change your mx record to point to there servers and if u don't own ur domain u can't. That seems to be to most common blind response. Its like asking why can't I please my wife? And everyone telling u to get a bigger *#+?, but u know that aint possible.

Google has a calendar sync not a BB sync per se. Check it out here:
Calendar Help Center

Or the istructions by forum member dstaff listed above in this thread.

WHatever you put on your calendar is synched- there is no seperate "tasks" sync.
