If you upgrade to 4.5 you will be able to work on everything except Excel '07 documents.

Is that any excel file that was created in Office 07? What if the file was saved in compatability mode saving the file as 97-03 Office file?

I use Office 07 at both home and work, but save all of my files as 97-03 .xls files so I don't run into issues when distributing the documents. I have been contempalting the move to a BB but if I won't be able to read or edit excel files I may rethink my position.

if you save it as am earlier excel file, it will work. the encoding is different in 07 excel, from my understanding.

i also found a workaround to the 'demo' version of docs to go.

they will not let you create a new file, but all other functionalities are there. so save a blank .doc file and a blank .ppt file on your SD card, and when needed, open up, create your file, and save as a different name.

i've actually got a question: from my understanding, .doc, .xls, .pdf, and .ppt are all available to view when emailed as attachments, but the only applications i see are Word to Go (.doc) and Slideshow to Go (.ppt).

how does the blackberry handle .pdf and .xls file viewing, and are they editable file formats?

.PDF is only included in the paid version. .xls is a free upgrade. Open docs to go and choose check for updates and it will auto install .xls support.

Excel 2007 (*.xlsx) files are now supported with the latest update from Dataviz a couple days ago.

So DTG now supports Word 97-07 documents (.doc .docx) PowerPoint 97-07 presentations (.ppt .pptx) Excel 97-07 spreadsheets (.xls .xlsx), and as stated above the premium version lets you view .pdf's However you can find free beta programs to see .pdf's at the moment.

thanks for the information Steve, however when i upgraded to 4.5OS it had an option for BlackBerry .PDF email support, and viewing .PDF's is now handled by a native software, when downloaded as an email attachment. haven't tried other methods though

Is the premium upgrade price really $70? Even for an upgrade from the free version I was expecting about half that!

Premium is still $70, they are giving PDF To Go for free (which is $30)... I am sure one of these days somewhere down the line they will eventually have a sale.

So I will be waiting for sale or when I actually do need it

I opened a Word 2007 doc from an e-mail and it didn't show a table properly. But when I opened it with Docs to Go it was fine. Will Blackberry be updating their Attachment Viewer? I'm already on 4.5

It just might be good practice to download attachments to a Media Card then open them with Docs To Go since it will be opened in View Mode you don't have to worry about making changes to the Documents by accident..

We probably are not going to see any updates to the attachment viewer unless we get a new OS.
