Problems with upgrade
Please Login to Remove!
I upgraded to .185 and now everytime I go to sync it errors and says "failed to connect to the device. please make sure that the device is properly connected and try again." I can access the memory card and read the device thru 'ny computer' but the sync fails every time. I have tried to downgrade to .167 and it errors as sonn as it trys to connec to the device. Anybody have a suggestion?

I also installed 407, but have the same problemo! I have followed JC's guidlines to the "T", and it will not load 185, no matter what. And yes, I get the language prompts also.
Arrrgh!~

Are you saying you tried with the 4.6 version of DTM and it still didn't work for you? (4.6 DTM (Desktop Manager) not to be confused with 4.6 (185) Blackberry Bold 9000 Handheld software).

Yes, I tried with 4.6 and 4.7 (I inadvertently said 407, sorry), neither of which would upgrade the device to 185 following all of JC's procedures.

Hmmm...well that stinks. I haven't tried installing with 4.6 DTM just yet and your experience basically tells me it's a 50/50 proposition. I'll update this thread with my experience whenever I get around to it.
UPDATE: I have successfully upgraded from .167 to .185 although I haven't come to any conclusions yet as to stability, performance, memory, etc. Just glad to get over the fence at the moment.

Well thanks to this website, I have successfully upgraded my Bold to the .185 software and it's made a HUGE difference. More than doubled my available memory (was down around 26Mb previously. After a battery pull, it starts out at about 59Mb free and after 24hrs of reasonable, mixed use is down to 51.6Mb. A HUGE improvement. Everything is faster to load. Battery is still at 85% even with some browsing, IM, phone calls, bluetooth hands free and using 3G the whole time. Haven't fired up WiFi yet. But still, battery is certainly hanging in there better than it was!
One problem I had before, and still have now, is when I try to browse to mobile.blackberry.com it doesn't recognise that I'm browsing from my BlackBerry. I get the page that says "The BlackBerry HELP! website is designed for use with the BlackBerry browser. Learn more about BlackBerry here." Yes I have it set Browser Identification to BlackBerry. I was hoping .185 would magically fix this issue but it hasn't. :(

Been trying .185 for just over a week, upgraded from .166 and my conclusion: I hope .190 isn't far away.
1. My BES connection is flaky at best and most of the time I have to hit "Reconcile now" to get my emails. I know it's not the provider nor our BES servers as my colleagues with .167 are not having the problem.
2. Battery life is absolute shite! Gone from nearly 3 days to barely 1 day. I'm a light BB user, don't do many calls, mainly emails but not many of those per day either hence being able to eek out 3 days before upgrading. 3G signal is excellent here so it doesn't have to hunt. Removed the battery as someone suggested on another thread to get the BB to reset properly - no difference.
If .190 takes much longer to come out for me to try, I think I will revert to .166

this is probably a dumb question, however, i will still go ahead and ask. and i apologise if it's been asked before.
i was contemplating updating my desktop software to v4.7. would this have any conflict with upgrading the OS on my bold? i am currently using 4.6.0.162, and am downloading .326. thanks!

Upgrade Error
Good Morning All...
I was attempting to upgrade my Bold and had this error show up in Desktop Manager: Invalid Configuration The application Browser can not be loaded because it requires the following applications that are not available: net.rim.blackberry.xml
I have upgraded my 8800 multiple times with no issue, but this is a new one on me. No luck searching for a similar report. I have a 9000 with the standard at&t load .167. Everything appears to be working well on the device.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...
Chris

After a Google search I've noticed a lot of the links for the .190 download are no longer available.

The playback on the music player is cutting out sporadically since upgrading to .185.

I signed up just to say thank you for finding this update! It has solved the error I was having with the Bold browser crapping out when trying to load a site consisting of many images.
Cheers. Back to hacking. ;)

Does anyone know if 190 has a significant advantage over 185, and if so, what? Better battery life? Better signal strength? Or is this a very minimal upgrade over 185, meaning it would make more sense to wait?
Also, are there any steps that can be taken, apart from those suggested at the beginning of these threads on how to update an OS, such that all of the third party programs don't have to be re-registered with the product IDs, etc.?

Are you going to upgrade it next, right away? Do we know what type of carrier AVEA is? GSM, CDMA, etc???? Are we sure this is the correct .190?
