Default Storm camera for Bold?

Please Login to Remove!

Any chance you guys can make the 3.2 Megapixel autofocus camera built into the Storm fit into & work on a BlackBerry Bold?

no wouldn't work.
hardware interface is different and not to mention that the software would not support it either.
would be nice though.

Isn't it the same 3.2Mp camera in the Storm as they're putting into the new Curve (aka Javelin)?

On the assumption that the Javelin, Storm and Bold have a lot of base code in common, I'm thinking that compatibility with the better camera chip might be something that's in the code but dormant for the Bold. On the hardware side, if they're from the same chip house, the modules may have the same pinout, with gating to the high-bit pin ignored or disabled for the 2Mp camera.

Oh well. I'll have to wait for the 12Mp autofocus 15x optical zoom 3-chip camera version.

That's quite a chain of assumptions, maybe's, and may's.... You sound like you know more about it than the people you've posed the question to.

No certain knowledge - I'm just an old geek making assumptions about how you keep growing a product line without starting from scratch every time.

A camera chip is essentially an optically written/digitally read memory, so a manufacturer of those chips benefits by dealing with standards for control pins and pinouts, etc., since it means future chips can happen more readily, again without starting from scratch.

And I was intrigued when I upgraded my old Pearl with a new O/S that it changed in ways you would think would require hardware changes, like upgrading the camera to do video and upgrading Bluetooth to BT2.

So I'm just a geek making guesses.
