Default Any way to switch to 2G only?

Please Login to Remove!

Picked up my Bold last night and I've been paying close attention to my 3G signal here in Chicago. Bottom line, my phone is spending a lot of time holding a 3G signal, then going to Edge, then back again. Depending on what neighborhood of the city I'm in, 3G can be strong or non-existent. Is there a way to set it to do 2G only? I can go back and turn on 3G when I'm in a strong data area, but I would like to keep the phone in 2G when I'm not in such an area.

EZ is correct, that is not an option on the ATT branded 9000s.

I have a Rogers-branded Bold running on the ATT network, and I do have the option to drop back to 2G only.

Yes, AT&T has locked this in the firmware. There is NO way to adjust that setting. This only effects AT&T Branded Bolds with an AT&T SIM card.

WTF, that makes no sense. So the thing searches for a 3g signal all day long if you're in a place (like me) where there is none? I'm guessing my battery wouldn't last a full day. Guess that makes the ATT Bold a non option for me. Glad I found this out, I though I could turn 3g off. Now that they dropped the price to $199 I was considering it too. Next move:the Storm!

Anyone have any guesses as to why ATT would lock that feature out?

An unlocked Rogers Bold with an AT&T SIM will work just fine!

Because they market the device as a 3G smartphone, and it's supposed to switch when 3G isn't available.

You will be able to choose. It only effects an AT&T Branded Bold with an AT&T SIM

I see that my question appears to have been answered in a provious post but I want to be absolutely certain before I trade my E71 for a Bold tomorrow morning that is an AT&T branded phone.

Using the AT&T Bold, unlocked and on T-Mobile with a T-Mobile SIM card, will I be able to choose 2g only?

I was not able to do so with an AT&T branded Bold on T-Mobile. With my current Rogers Bold I am able.

If you travel overseas, in some places 3G data does not work with AT&T bold with their international data plan.
