Default Bold has constant Busy "spinner" constantly spins

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

About once a week or so it seems, the busy spinner thingy spins around infinitely. I have nothing else running according to Switch Applications. It seems when this happens, the device slows down to a crawl, and battery life drains very quickly.

Only solution I had found is to turn off and pull the battery. When it boots, it takes approximately 5-7 minutes to get back to the home screen.

This is a brand new Bold I got from AT&T and I rather not replace it as I already got everything setup on it the way I like it. It seems more of an OS issue than anything.

What is recommended I do to resolve this? Anyone else heard about this issue? Google turns up nothing.

Thanx

Options > About, what OS are you running. Third line down, beginning with "v.4.6.xxx"

At Options > Status, what is your file free listed?

What's the free memory after a battery pull? 17mb seems low for a Bold.

Is it possible the AT&T firmware is causing problems? Is it possible to put RIM's generic OS onto the device?

All OS versions come from RIM - you can use any carrier's OS on your device as long as it's the one designed for your specific model. An OS comes with all vendor themes in it, they just don't install if you don't delete the vendor.xml file.

Quite possibly the version of the OS you're using is to blame for the busy problems. Definitely update to .185 or .190 from the links at the top of the Bold forum. You can use any carrier's OS and not lose anything.

Should I go to 190? Since I got default 167 from AT&T still on it. What is the most stable version I should upgrade to? Anything else I need to do to make it less AT&T (i use the other theme that came with the phone so i can use bb maps)

I've noticed this issue after I visit certain websites. I suspect the site is attempting to launch a script or something the device doesn't like...resulting in the problem.

Pay attention to which sites you're visiting--and see if one in particular results in the problem...

No harm in going to the latest OS you can find out there. You can always dial it back down to a lower OS if necessary.

Most folks are doing just fine with .190, but when it first came out there were some hiccups so I went with only .185 myself. Seems like it's been well vetted by now and is the way to go. I like going with something just off the bleeding edge as I'm a natural coward with my OS.

Well my phone got into slow mode again and this time i noticed file memory and it was around 4MB. What is eating up the file store? How can I clear this data up? I thought it came with 1 GB of internal memory.

Viigo is a notorious memory hog if you're using that app. Also, do you have a memory card? If not, you definitely need one for pics, videos, music, saved documents, and ringtones.

You should have 40+ MB of free file space most of the time. Memory management on later OS versions is WAY better than on .167. Go for the upgrade!

Wirelessly posted

Well I just put 190 so I'll see if that fixes it. I do have a memcard installed and don't use Viigo.

You can always also try the tips suggested here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ee-memory.html
