the black ring trackballs, will still give you the silver outer, as you have to unclip the silver outer and then clip it back over the top.
the older 88xx and 83xx will benefit from the g1 trackballs tho

That silver outer clip is underneath the buttons and is not seen. With the G1 trackball, no silver is visible.

the silver ring holds the trackball in place, its just not as clumsy as the older model rings. the black/white rings of the g1/8900 trackball sit under that. regardless of what trackball u use, the end result is still a silver ring. as you dont see the white ring of the 8900 trackball once u finish.

NO, that's incorrect! The G1 trackball has a black ring. When it's installed into the Bold, all you see is the black ring and the black trackball. I've seen it in place. As soon as I get mine installed, I will take pics and show you.

The black bezel comes with the unbranded bottom piece. You don't need to buy that separate.

sure u didnt see it on a 83xx or 88xx where the rings of the trackballs can be seen?
once u take your bold apart and do the installation, you will see what i mean.
otherwise most of us have white rings on our bolds, which is simply not the case.

I've got the 8900 trackball on mine, which has the white ring on it. [EDIT] The chrome retainer that holds the trackball down covers the white or black ring that comes on the trackball and is the only thing that shows thru the hole. Though with the shine the top looks white, what you see here is the chrome ring only.

important question! have to get a answer as soon as possible so i can order it from cnn!!!
Well a piece of silver on the ring that surrounds the trackball chipped off.
thats the area that got chipped off.
if i order the G1 trackball, well it replace the chip? This is bugging me lol.

That is actually the chrome ring that is part of the latch that holds the trackball assembly down to the board.

I've just done a quick google search for it and don't see anything for it. Plenty for the other series, I would think they will eventually be available.
