Default Which app causing battery drain?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys. I have had my Bold since it launched in November. I installed a few apps over this weekend, and all of a sudden I had to charge 3x today. I am thinking that its related to one of the apps I installed over the weekend and am wondering, before I go pull them all off, if someone can tell me which one is most likely the culprit. I am running the stock ATT OS (4.6.0.167)

I recently added the following apps:
Beyond411
Poynt
Weatherbug Direct
Bberry weather (wanted to compare the 2 see which I liked best)
Google sync (update to ver 0.5.13)
Slacker Mobile for Blackberry.

My battery was fine before this, so I am thinking it's one or a combination of a couple of these apps.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jay.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

WB direct will drain you if its continually searching the weather. You may want to adjust the settings. The others will drain you if they are using GPS and constantly using data. Make sure you shut off whatever you are NOT using.

Do a battery pull first. See if that gets things back to normal before removing the programs....

Default GPS location.

In my opinion its "GPS Location -On". I guess there is bug in this module. I too had bad battery life, and the moment i switched it off, my battery life went way up.

hope this helps

thanks

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I removed another app., and restarted the Bold and it seems to have helped. But I will keep watching it for the next couple days.

For me, it's Poynt.

If I go say, 5 days without using Poynt, the battery is fine. Use it ONCE for 5 minutes, close it out (but not reboot), and my battery is at 50% in no time.

I can't hazard a guess why this would be, but for me it holds true.

I can tell you that I had the same exact issue. I could use my bold all day and have 50% bat left at night. All of the sudden (after adding various apps) my bat was now running out before the end of the day. I suspected one of the 3 weather programs I was running my have been to blame.

I ran WeatherBug, Weathereye and the BB accuweather push (all updating once an hour). I uninstalled Weathereye and my bat life went back to normal.

I would think it's an app using the GPS rather than the GPS itself. My understanding is that the GPS doesn't do anything unless you ask it. For example, in Google Maps, your location is pinpointed within 1300 meters by cellphone triangulation first before the GPS is asked to provide more a more specific location.

Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking with it.

Don't forget upgrading your OS. I switched to .216 from .185. (.167 was what came with). Moving to 216 I noticed a HUGE battery and connectivity improvement. I would even go to say my battery life doubled.

mine was dropping 65 to 70% each day with *normal* usage. Much worse that my 8820. I don't use GPS and Wifi, mostly BES email and a little browsing.

This morning I dropped the backlight brightness from 100 to 50 and made it all day and the battery is at 60%...since 5:15 a.m. this morning...a first with this thing!! I think that the default is 100...

Although I notice constant switching from 3g to edge during the day...AT&T is pretty tired where I work.

Just passing it along.

As MushroomStamp said, update your OS!

.167 that comes with ATT is terrible with battery life. It keeps switching between EDGE and 3G, which is where the battery drain occurs. My battery lasts 2 days and a half now, whereas it barely lasted a day on .167.

I also have constant 3G now.
