Default Bold won't connect to the Internet unless I use Wi-Fi.

Please Login to Remove!

I’ve had my Blackberry Bold for a few months with no problems, but as from yesterday the Internet has stopped working on it and I am unable to access any websites.

The only time I can get websites is when I’m at home and using the Wi-Fi connection on the Bold.

When out of the house and out of range of my Wi-Fi connection, I get the error message of “This is a Wi-Fi Service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again.”

Now after searching the various forums I’m being directed into changing the default browser.

If I go to Options> Advanced Options> Browser, it says my Default browser configuration is: Hotspot Browser.

I think I need to change the default Browser to: Internet Browser, but I do not have this option any longer.

Has the Internet Browser disappeared?
And if this is what is causing my problem, how can I get it back again.

As far as I can remember I haven’t touched or changed any settings since the Internet was last working to my knowledge two days ago.

I have tried the following, with no success:

1. Hard reset (Battery pull etc)

2. Options> Advanced Options> Host Routing Table> Register Now
It says message sent and I receive the service message, but it doesn’t solve the problem

3. I’ve also tried sending the Service Books from BlackBerry Internet Service and I receive the service books message on my Blackberry Bold after switching Wi-Fi on, but again I can’t access the Internet on the phone without using the Wi-Fi connection.

My provider is Vodafone UK

Please help. Any help would be gratefully received.

You may need to call Vodafone. If resending the service books didn't fix it, then it sounds like your provisioning got messed up.

Is it possible you've hit a monthly cap for data or do service providers not do that and charge you overage in most cases? (I wouldn't know, I have always had unlimited data plans).

I can't speak for all service providers, but Rogers will send you a text informing you that you reached your plan max. You can still use data, they are just notifying you that from then on you'll be ripped off ........ I mean charged extra.

Oh and I agree with mckinneycm, give them a call.

Vodafone sent me a new sim card which I installed this morning and that hasn't solved it.

Also restored the Blackberry to factory settings this morning and the problems still persists. I still only have Hotspot Browser as my only available browser.

All very strange!!

Vodafone have said this morning they are going to send me a replacement handset next week.

However, I'm still keen to try and solve it before the new handset arrives, so if anyone has any other suggestions I have nothining to lose. e.g. Can I download the Internet Browser anywhere?

By the way, I can send and receive calls and SMS perfectly ok. But email and Internet doesn't work at all.

Wirelessly posted

Well now it sounds more like a hardware issue; likely an issue with the antenna that handles data. Good thing is that they are willing to replace it without a hassle.
