Default Can Not Start Attachment Server

Please Login to Remove!

We have been running BES for over 3 years without issue. About a month ago our server went down and needed to be replaced. There seemed to be no issue once the server was back up, however several days ago our attachment service stopped working. When I go to start the service, I get this message: "An error has occured starting the service "Blackberry Attachment Service". The service was not started."
I have tried restarting the server, no luck there. I really have no idea why this service stopped working.
Please forgive my ignorance, I am realitively new to the BES admin scene so all suggestions/help are greatly appriciated. TIA
-Bob

Welcome to the forums.

What version of BES are you running? What mail platform? Also, what do the logs show from around the time that you noticed the issue?

I am running 4.0.0
Are there specific log errors I should look for?
The only error I found in the logs that seems relevant is titled "BlackBerry Mobile Data Service" it showed up for about 10 days hasn't shown up in over a week, and contains the following text:
The description for Event ID ( 15000 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Mobile Data Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: <2009-01-04 00:05:47 EST>:[25]:<MDS_SERVER>:<ERROR>:<LAYER = SCM, EVENT = AdminServiceImpl.run(): java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread>

That is a completely different issue. Does your MDS service start?

Really sounds like the services are messed up. Make sure that the credentials on the services are correct(during the install it uses the credentials of the user that is logged in). If you changed the password on that account that would be an issue, You should always install BES using a specific "Service" account that does not go through password changes.

Also you didn't state if you were an Exchange, domino or a groupwise mail user.

makes a different when troubleshooting issues.

The MDS does start, the only service that doesn't is the Attachment Service.
The user is a "service specific" user account for the BES, and that has not changed.
It is an Exchange server.
Are there specific logs I should be looking for?
Thanks for all your help.

If I were to stop all of the BES services; BB Alert, BB controller, BB Dispatcher etc. is there any specific order that i should stop them, or any order to start them?

Router, Dispatcher, Controller, and the rest in any order from there. If that does not work try re-installing your BES.

I know in BEs 4.0 you can uninstall and re-install the attachment service but I forget the switches.

After you get the error, do you see anything in the Windows Event Viewer? Look in the application log, you should see something in there.

I tried that order, but the BB Attachment Server still would not start. There are no logs in the event viewer for the BB Attachment Service.
