In hindsight you should have had the Rogers rep put a SIM card in, turn it on and make sure basic functionality was available. A bad SIM slot perhaps? See if you can go back to Canada and get it replaced.

I got the same problem as of this past weekend. I got a Pearl and the darn thing wiil say Insert SIMcard! If I turn mine off then on it fixes the problem, but it is very annoying since I could be missing calls until I do that. So, I guess I ain't helping, just sympothyzing, but try turning off and on if you havent already.
Well I was able to return my unlocked unit to Rogers and got my $650 back. Pfeh! I'll now wait for ATT to release it... OR.. Maybe a Javelin if TMO come out b4 the Bold is released. Or maybe a Storm.. Better hurry ATT, there is some competition out there!
Install the SIm go trough the setup process or just cancell. Once you are on the today screen go to connection manager and activate wireless network. That should force the sim to be read and you should not have a problem after that.
