Fuuuuu, got an app error when installing... Had to wipe the device and start over :(, its been a while since I did a good backup too, and the desktop manager decided to delete the backup it makes when it starts... Damn I never usually have any problems :(... Lame... :( I guess just another helpful reminder: backup your sh*t.

edit: phew I did find the databases backup, still had to reinstall a few apps, but phone book is still good :p lucky.

No, not unless you can get ATT to send you the service book it will not work... I'm surprised no one has found a way around the service books, its been a real pain for several apps now... (ie all the BB messengers that are mostly dead, and the att curve on tmo browser issues long ago)

Okay. Probably a stupid question, but I feel that it's worth asking:

A few months ago I downloaded and am currently running version 4.5.0.55. I presume that was one of the bug-fix versions. Is this new release of 4.5.0.174 an improvement upon the version I have running or what? I mean, it doesn't make much sense to me that the "new" official version has a lower version number than the one I am now using...

Any guidance or should I shut up and get the new official release?

I would suggest you move to one of the newer versions available, as there have been significant improvements in memory leaks.

Since you're on AT&T, you might want to consider loading 4.5.0.110, which was their official release. It's only one release back from this latest version posted.

Actually, it is possible to install the BB Maps for 4.2 OS on the 4.5 OS. Download any version of 4.2, and copy over the LBS.alx file and all the java/lbs*.cod files from the 4.2 OS to your 4.5 OS install, then run application loader from the desktop.

I got this error when trying to run the install file:

Error 2909. Could not unregister component {E0987959-6DD2-4C96-9402-D00A6AEBF4E5}. Abort/Retry/Ignore?

This happens when the status shows "Updating component registration" at about 100%.

Anyway, I run the file on a different computer and it is successful.

I'm having crazy trouble with the network after this update... it keeps switching from GSM to EDGE and my calls aren't going through or coming in... SMS is fine and even BBM but calls "fail"... anyone else getting this problem? I'm downgrading again...

If your BB is working fine, (running 4.5.0.110), isn't it okay to just stick with that OS almost indefinitely or unless AT&T comes out with something way better?

I'm not understanding the advantage of installing every single updated OS just because it exists. I can understand if it fixes a problem I have but I'm very pleased with this thing and I'm one of those old, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" guys.

Maybe if someone says, "Hey, this update does this cool new thing" but it seems nobody even knows what this update really does?

Are there any plans for a 4.6 or 4.7 (something higher than 4.5) OS for the 8310?

Your are right, no one knows.

I've mentioned this point a couple times here and there in this forum.
I am on 110 and got it for the HTML email, video camera, etc... all the
new, cool things that 4.5 brings.

All other versions of 4.5 have no explicitly named benefits and most people
like to incrementally upgrade just for the emotional rush (and risks...) it
brings, not because of any benefit the upgrade provides.

So just stay on 110, watch the post count grow, knowing that you are
not missing anything, only the grief that comes with an overlay that
does not do much of anything....

There may be nothing that you see on the surface. Keep in mind that RIM has many partners that test the device with their networks and also 3rd party applications. So, you may install something later that doesn't work and an update will fix.

Default OS 4.5 Speaker blast issue

The only issue I've found so far with 4.5 is when I answer a call, the speakerphone engages automatically for the first 2 seconds of the phone call.

This is a bit annoying but the speaker turns off after 2 sec and the call progresses normally.

I think it happens about 50% of the time.

I've heard this is a known issue with 4.5 on other versions of 83XX units

Default OS upgrade and Enterprise Activation

Hi,

This can be a stupid question but... When I do an OS upgrade do I have to redo the enterprise activation again or it would not be necessary ?

Thanks
