What I find interesting is that RIM had instituted a major crackdown on leakage of beta software last year, and many betas were very hard to come by for a long time, and something feels different about the situation now. Somehow betas like .174 are listed in numerous spots now -- with download links being posted on various forums. Try doing a google search on the full version number, restricted even to just the most recent 24 hours. You'll get a huge number of hits, with links.

What's different now that makes all these sites suddenly comfortable about posting links to beta OS downloads? (not that I'm complaining, mind you!)
Thanks vinmontRD, I will wait for the Official OS. Thanks again!

Default GPS issues

Has anyone else that's had GPS issues with this build gotten it to work? I got it to update my position once after the update, so I know it's not impossible. Nothing I've tried since then has worked.

I'm updating now... My Application Loader Wizard seems to be stuck on the "Restore Device Data". I have been restoring "Camera Options" now for what seems to be a really really long time. What do I do? It doesn't seem to be doing anything...

I am beginning to worry that I have ruined my 8900. Any advice? Any help?

Haven't noticed anything different from .133 but I'll keep watching.

Default Fast but quite buggy os update.

so far What I found out about this release...

1. Media bug - > media player does not recognize .avi files at all. if you use explorer, you can navigate and play them. but not in native media player mode.(and same with .174)

2. GPS bug. - > it either works super fast or not at all.
until release 114 or 144, it took moderate time ti find sattellite, but it found all the times. but with this release, it is extreme. if it finds, it only takes 10~20 seconds. If it can't find.... it will never find even after 2 hrs unless you reboot the device.. This is really a bummer....

its overally faster than any of previous os, and battery is so much better.
but too many big bugs for me to keep.

i will see if the gps bug is fixed with .174.. if not, i'l go back to .114

I was having the GPS problems, and I called Tmo this afternoon. they had me pull the battery and resent some service books. GPS picked up after that, but it's still taking awhile to lock on.

Anyone else encountering this?

Well, that fixed it for one lock on. Now it can't lock on again and .174 hasn't helped either.

Are you trying to find "my location" or trying to gps navigate?

I've found that after the software update I can get it to navigate (slowly and not updating) and I can get google maps to work with the satellite but if I try to get my current location it never finds it.

I've tried everything. Google maps, GPS refresh from the menu, and BBMaps. Nothing works.

I'm using it, and I don't see much of a difference. My GPS is still broken too.

jubrand,

I am finding out that if my signal bars are low to medium (1,2 or 3 bars) the GPS does not find the satellites. When the bard are 4 and up it works fine.

Mine is just really spotty with these 2 builds, regardless of the signal strength. I got it to find the sats yesterday with the diagnostic tests, but it took a long time. It held them on the way home in Google maps and was working fine, but today it's back to not being able to find them again.

Default Youtube

I installed this new version of the software. It works amazing. It does feel much faster. It still will not play youtube videos tho. At least now it will tell me "An error has occurred attempting to play media." whereas with the first version it would just do nothing and say nothing. I am using an unlocked T-mobile version of the phone and with the latest software posted to this thread. 168

Any Ideas?

Just upgraded. Got a fatal error the first time I tried, but after BB & PC restart, no problem. Everything is working, including GPS. Only thing that I still can not get to work is youtube, but I've never gotten it to work.

Hopefully battery life is improved................

I don't see an improvement in battery life. Going down about the same. I'm on UMA a lot (right now 100% of the time). Unplugged at 5am, shut it off till 7am, and have been on it a while this morning, not talking, and I'm at 90%. On track for about a 30-40% day which is normal. I skipped the last update, so I think I'm coming from .133.........

Other than that, pretty solid.

This 168 runs well, no problem since yesterday's update. Only BB Maps I can't find
