Okay, I've had the Bold since September now, and coming from Windows Mobile, I've had to make certain allowances for the relative weaknesses of the BB OS, and I've learned to live with this (sort of).

But the one area that I am not willing to compromise on is an RSS Feedreader. I've been using NewsGator GO! for Blackberry for months now, and while it's okay (just barely), it doesn't allow images in feeds to be shown. So now I'm in search of one that allows for importing of my feeds via OPML file, display of images in feeds, and categorization of feeds.

In Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, and even the damn iPhone OS I can do these things, but my search has yet to turn up even one RSS Feedreader that will do these things!

Now, as I've said, I'm relatively new to the BB OS, so perhaps there are resources that I'm not aware of, I'm willing to admit that.

Does anyone know of such an app that will do most (preferably ALL) of the things I've mentioned?

Have you tried Viigo? It doesn't seem to be for everyone... but it does have OPML support and images.

I tried it a couple of months ago, but gave up on it because of its lack of categories support. It seems like a small thing, but I have dozens of feeds I read daily and it's a nightmare to do it with that app.

Maybe I'll try it again, in the hopes that categories have been added.

Yes if you're OK doing it through the browser:

Google Reader Mobile Site

Best bet is to get Google Reader set up the way you want it on your PC and then go to the mobile site.

If you want an icon for it, go grab a copy of BlackBerry Web Shortcuts (BlackBerry Web Shortcuts 2.1.2), load an icon image to your SD card (http://simplespark.com/i/fav/googlereader.gif), and you can create a shortcut just for Google Reader.

I've tried Newsgator, Free Range, Bloglines and Viigo. I didn't like Viigo because it was slow and I don't think a news reader should take up THAT much space on a device with limited memory.

I use Google Reader on my desktop so I tried it on my BlackBerry. I love it.

It takes a minute to get used to, but when the page loads all new posts are presented in order received. I will usually just run down the list and read as I go, but if I want to read certain tags or certain feeds only, I hit 7 to jump to the bottom and then select the link for either tags or subscriptions, which obviously brings those up. The thing that I really like about this is that Reader moves all of your tags or feeds with new posts to the top in alphabetical order. I have about 16 tags and around 50 or so feeds, so this makes it so I don't have to scroll down a lot of the time.

Up to you, but it works for me. I had an RSS reader for my Treo (name escapes me) and it had essentially the features of Google Reader Mobile. All in all, Google Reader works for me.

I use Viigo to read about 25 feeds daily. About 8 - 10 of those are blogs which aren't updated often, but the rest are active, high-volume news/msgboards, etc.

As mentioned by others, Viigo supports OPML, and displays images. As for categorization, I am not sure what you mean; but I re-order mine the way I like by grouping them together, by using Edit Channel and giving it a custom title.

While using custom titles might be looked upon as a "cheesy" way of categorizing feeds, I do that so that all tech blogs are together, all non-tech blogs are together, all messageboards from one site are together, etc. I use something like "A-CNN Headline News", "B-BBForums.com - General BB", "B-BBForums.com - 3rd Party Software", etc. and use the alphabet, spaces and special characters in order to achieve the sorting I want/need.

The only downer with doing it this way is that each time I upgrade OS's, I lose all my custom titles; BUT the upside is that getting all the feeds back takes seconds -- by logging into your account.

Viigo has a ton of features including Weather, Sports, Flight Info, and so on, but I only use the News & RSS myself.

How do you get the shortcuts to work in Google Reader Mobile? For instance it says to press # to mark all stories as read but that does not work. It seems all of the shortcuts do not work. I hate using the scroll wheel to move around the articles. I would rather use the keyboard. Is there a setting to fix this?

I can't get # to work either, but throughout your browser:

T is top of page
B is bottom of page
R = refresh current page

There are others as well, but these are the ones I use while visiting Google Reader.

I am hoping viigo adds categories in an upcoming release. I also wish all the other cr@p it does could be disabled or uninstalled so it doesn't hog so much space.

I didn't know that the # shortcut to mark all read didn't work. On my Pearl I use 1 and 7 for top and bottom and I use 3 and 9 to scroll up and down a page. I click on mark all read.

You are not limited to the catagories Viigo lists.
You can put in any RSS feed link you want.
I have many that are not part of their stock list.
Just go to NEWS & RSS and "Add Channel"

I would like to see an app that allows you to set push notifications for certain feeds as they are updated. Basically, the app's server would hold the feeds and when there's and update it would push it you.

The biggest problem I have with Viigo is that the 'update all' feature... doesn't. I have read their blog about why this is the case, but I still don't like it.

Basically in order to get the latest articles on every RSS feed I have added I have to click 'update' manually on each one.

And even though the blog says they are eventually updated (but not as often as the ones they offer to choose from a list), I find that some never show new articles unless I manually update them, one at a time.

I tried a program called RSSFeed!. It gave me an error message on every feed I tried, even the default ones that were included. Their tech support was useless, so I gave up on it.

Berry Trader does support RSS news and in fact it is the primary news source into the software. But there is a lot of problems with the standard RSS newsfeed as its link elements is designed to be viewed on standard browser. For each of the source, we need to customize the link in order to be viewable on the mobile screen.

Let us know if the interests on open RSS newsfeed reader is enough, we then will open the reader to accept user input RSS link.

BTW, Berry Trader from Quant Edge is free. Dont worry that we are trying to marketing the product.

Berry Trader currently supports 8900 & 9000 ONLY. Forgot to mention this. The reason is older phones are being obsoleted, it takes a lot of time and resources to support multiple versions.

do you know how much lag time there is for a site to update and pop up in viigo? i use the "update all" quite frequently and it seems to work well for me. i haven't tried logging in to certain sites and comparing how up-to-date the viigo reader is, however....

I do not know how long news feeds take to show up because I have no way of gauging that.

However - I have a personal RSS feed set up for the Reqall in Viigo for all of my personal appointments, bills, pending tasks, etc... and they show up almost immediately once they have been assigned through the Reqall program.

I could only assume that once something is posted in other feeds they show up just as quickly well?
