I can get either of them for free, but I can't choose which one! This is such a huge dilemma for me because I hate being stuck with a phone I don't like for two years.

What I like about the 7100g is that it has speakerphone which is a huge deal for me, and its shape.

I like everything about the 7290 (minus the lack of speakerphone), but when I was researching, people complained about the dim screen and that it was even more difficult to see outdoors.

Which do you recommend?

I use the 7290. I tried "upgrading" to the 7100 2 different times, and ended up back at the 7290 - my thoughts:

7100 Pros:
Great screen indoors
Speakerphone - this was big for me too
Size and shape

7100 Cons:
HORRIBLE screen outside or in the sun - I literally couldn't look up phone numbers while driving on a sunny day
Suretype works decently but slows me down

7290 Pros:
Screen is not as good indoors, but is very readable in all light situations.
Full keyboard is a pleasure after Suretype - I don't have to look as I type.

7290 Cons:
No speakerphone
Looks like you are talking into a hockey puck

I still like the 7290 alot better...having said that I work with lots of people who prefer the 7100 series.

The 7290 has the qwerty key board that is a biggy for me. The dim sreen hasn't been an issue after bblight has been installed.
