WhenI go to Desktop Manager and click on back up, the process starts but then I get an unknown error message and then it stops. I tried several times and unable to back up in order to be able to download new OS. Any advice?

I am having the same problem. I didn't have time last night, but I am going to try the deletion of the browser cache, and I am also going to try using a DM on another computer. I'll let you know how it goes...

Make sure you delete cache and cookies and history. This fixed it for me

Default Problems backing up

Same problem here. I followed directions and cleared browser cache and received same error (unknown error). Any other ideas?

Default Cannot backup

I did the battery pull and then cleared browser cache and cookies on Blackberry and also the browser cache under desktop manager. I did get further into the process. But when it gets to backing up the sounds, it lags and then I get an unknown error message.

Should I delete anything else under desktop manager?

I had the same problem and did exactly the following recomendations and it worked for me.

UNDER BROWSER OPTIONS: Make sure you delete cache and cookies and history.

THEN: go into dm>backup and restore>click Advance>under device database look for Browser Data Cache>highlight it, then click the CLEAR option. That should work. After your done, go back and do a backup

Okay, I followed your directions in the order of deleting cache, cookies and history on my BB and then going to DM under backu pand restore and highlighting browser data cache and clearing. I tried to back up and I received same unknown error message. It does ask me if I will allow them to block teh Mass Storage Mode and I clicked both yes and no separate times and still receive unknown error code. It gets to MMS under back up and it lags and then I get the message. Or there any other options or do you think I need to call Blackberry? Thank you!

Thats all I can offer on that situation with out physically doing the directions myself. I see you have Verizon. Call 611 and speak to the techs about it. Sorry it did not work for you right off.

I usually clear/ or just simply "deselect" messages on the backup process, goes right through. Which ever you want to do is up to you.

If you're asking about the CACHE? you clear it from the phone, but the "Deselect of MESSAGE" option, you do this from Desktop Manager when you go through the back up process ( this will ask you what you want to back up, just remove CHECK MARK from "Messages."

Tavat, I tried your way and still got the unknown error. Not sure why I am having this issue. Hopefully when I update my OS, I will be able to back up (fingers crossed). Thanks!
