On the phone with a T-Mo BB/UMA specialist, and they have acknowledged that it is most likely a network problem. They are opening a trouble ticket also.

I also had a similar problem as the OP after a firmware upgrade. I resolved it by going into Options - Advanced Options - Host Routing Table - scroll till you find "T-Mobile USA (31026030)". The T-Mobile USA (31026030) should be in bold. Register Now.

After registering, that line still remains in bold, but at least in my case, the W004 error message issue was resolved and I am again able to latch onto wifi.

I am not a techie, and I do not know the purpose of registering this line, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

Wirelessly posted (8100 on T-Mo)

Unfortunately re-registering the host routing table will not solve this problem.

I just got a call back from T-Mo tech dept and they said it was definitely a network issue and they are working on it. They expect a resolution in the next week.

Will you post back when if you hear back from T-Mobile again? I am having the same problem with my 8900.

Thumbs up

Just got home and attempted to connect to my wifi network here and got full connectivity. I connected to uma then UMA. I also called T Mobile to advise the UMA feature is working, they credited my account for 2 weeks of no data service.

I had it connected for a little while this morning, but it didn't last. I have been connected to two different routers today, and except for the short time this morning, I still have no connection via UMA.

Just connected mine too and it went straight to "UMA" and connected without error.

Looks like they fixed it.

Just wanted to add that after losing UMA ability in my neighborhood 6 weeks ago, I gave up on getting UMA to work on my Curve. But while I was on a call yesterday, I suddenly lost my connection and when I looked at my phone to redial, the UMA was back. This was having done *nothing* to tweak my router or my phone since the beginning of April. I think it was definitely something on the back end with TMO network. I'm so glad to see UMA and the black/white Wifi logo on my phone again.

Exclamation Solution to this Problem! Disable UMM on Your Router!

Hey, everybody - I found solution to this problem! I had the issue with error W004 at home while the device worked perfectly at my office. After googling this topic for a while I found some post mentioning the UMM setting on a router.

I went to mine (Netgear WGR614 v7) and found it in the Advanced section of the set up (192.168.1.1) to be set to "Enabled". I set it up to "Disabled" while holding my blackberry open on the "wi-fi diagnostic page" and here we go the red-crossed sign of no connection turned into green before my very eyes!

Hard to say what to recommend when you are in the public place like Starbucks - other than to find a burrista who is responsible for their router and ask him to flip this switch but you may try - you never know if they just say yes to you!

Anyway, do not adjust your bb devices - this problem is in the router!

I hope this helps!

Exclamation

I purchased curve8320 last week. Here is what happened with me...
I inserted expired SIM card to turn on phone and use wifi.
I set wifi connection to my home router and connected to it.
But the connection is fluctuating a lot. It goes and come back randomly not giving me consistent access of wifi. It is not my router issue. I tried at my office network also.
Does UMA come in picture here?
There is no host routing table as I dont have carrier service in it.
But I think I should be able to use my phone with wifi without carrier.
Any idea about such behavior of 8320? I am running latest OS in it.

Thanks...

Not quite sure what's the issue with your wifi. When I first got my device it couldn't connect to my home router for 2 days. After that it started working and as been for over a year.

As for UMA, I believe that's a Tmobile only feature? Looks like you have AT&T.

Default UMA Work Around

Using TMobile-- WIth wifi on, UMA wasn't connecting... getting the same DNS error every one else mentions in this thread.

What I ended up doing, was disabling the TMOBILE network and wifi... then re-enabled wifi... once it aquired I then re-enabled the tmobile network... (in that order)

it works consistently...

Has to be a bug in the TMOBILE n-wrk somewhere....

I searched high and low on the net for week for answer to my UMA problem. It just suddenly stopped working and nothing would fix it. I'm on Rogers in Canada and this is the only solution that worked.

My friend had a similar problem, except he had no errors and had a full wifi connection, it would just not show UMA on the phone, instead it displayed EDGE. The fix worked for him too.

Much Thanks!
