Default Themes: Does size matter?

Please Login to Remove!

Does the size of your theme effect the way your Blackberry runs? IE: will a 150k theme run faster than a 500k theme or is their no effect on performance?
Thanks in advance for your help. Dave

It probably depends on how much total memory is in use on the device -- how many other apps, themes, etc. are on the device.

Not to worried about the total memory (I have 46mb)and i'm running 4.6.0.266 on a Bold with 4 themes.
I have one theme that's about 130k and another weather based theme that's over 600k.
And it seems as though the 600k theme runs a little slower when i'm multi tasking.
Although I wouldn't put it past me to just be imagining this...

Is it an animated theme, or a slideshow theme? It could be causing it to run slower. I think mine runs a little slower with one particular theme, too.

Just the weather icon is animated if that makes sense (it moves slightly when I place the cursor on it)
I'm not really having any problems with memory. This is more of a curiosity issue than anything.
Normally I don't post much because I can find my answers already answered on this forum or Crackberry's...
BTW, thank's for your quick replies and to all who have helped me unwittingly!

I can swear that some themes I've installed on my 8330 take a toll on the overall performance of my device more than others. Fortunately, I've never really been a theme junkie. I've found one I really like and I've stuck with it. Of course, theoretically, with more memory in use there will be slight degradation in performance. With the amount of available memory you still have available you really shouldn't notice that much of a difference but of course, we know in real world terms, that just isn't always the case. As Daphne pointed out, animations, for instance, are going to be slightly taxing on CPU/Memory more so than just a run of the mill, clean and simple them.

Thank you for the answers. Pretty much what I figured, was just wondering what peoples opinions were.
BTW not really a theme junkie but I like to download and dump and currently besides the "mandatory" AT&T zen theme I only have 2 other themes installed. Thanks again.

I've found this to be the case as well. Especially on older Blackberrys like the 7105t. I'm guessing that theme size and add-ins like animation or weather checks will effect performance, but the more powerful processor used now vs. used back in the 7105t days overcomes most of the performance hit. But it's still there. It would probably crop up if you had a lot of apps open and were taxing the system.

In general, the size of the theme has nothing to do with slowing down the BB performance. The usage of transparency on buttons and menus however will slow down performance. Depending on the BB device, a sliding or hidden Dock also may slow down performance. Animated backgrounds can be a reason too for a slowdown on some BB devices.
As example, Storm/Bold "lookalike" themes are very popular for 81XX and 83XX devices but they also use transparency on buttons and menus which makes it feel a bit slow.
