I have read a ga-zillion posts from AT&T Bold owners asking how to "lock" AT&T Bold to Edge network - only solution was to re-brand or un-brand.

On another forum (Crackberry) I discovered a thread with a way to do this - WITHOUT having the risks involved with un-branding or re-branding.

Since so many of us AT&T Bold owners are tired of dropped calls . . I asked permission of the moderator of BlackberryForums if it was okay to mention the thread on Crackberry - I was given the okay to do so.

Go to Crackberry - select the Bold 9000 forum - then, do a search for:

How to: Disable 3G or 2G on AT&T Bolds without debranding

I followed the instructions - no problems - and IT WORKS AS STATED!! I have been running with this solution for 5 days now - went from approximately 50-60 % dropped calls to NOT A SINGLE DROPPED CALL IN 5 DAYS!

Was not able to get into the escreen using the tools unlock code.

I believe the uptime setting is pretty sensitive when getting the unlock code from the website (i.e., once you have read the uptime on your phone, get it into the website QUICK) . . other than that, I suggest going to the unlock code website and try getting a new key.

If all else fails, you might want to read through the entire string for the post on Crackberry . . several people had varying difficulties getting it to work, but the two persons who developed the "trick" and the website were able to help them out

I've never had any problems with dropped calls on my Bold through at&t.
