I have a form served up from an ASP page that has a part number field on it . The part numbers are all numeric. Is there a way the user can type in numbers without hold down the shift key?
Do I have to be using wml to use format="*N" option and would that do what I need?

Alt-Num will keep the numlock on .. but as far as programming... yahoo.com/weather has the same feather where when I type zip code it always enters numerics.

you can use a contructor with a style for basiceditfield, FILTER_NUMERIC.
or you could overwrite the keystroke-event and redefine the keyboard-layout as you like.
