Battery stats.
Please Login to Remove!
I've had my tour for about ten days. A few days back, after I figured I was done "playing around" and back to semi-normal usage, I started tracking some information about battery usage. Here are my current results. I will followup with some more stats while I am in weaker RF areas.
3rd part apps running in background:
NWSClient (updates temperature and conditions on icon, not sure how often)
SocialScopeLite - not set to auto update, I update when I go to the app,
probably 4 times a day.
For this test, I was mostly in environments where the radio is showing -95
to -80dBm. My office is -85 to usually -80dBm. My commute shows -90 to
mostly -80dBm.
Backlight Brightness 50%, Backlight Timeout: 2min. Auto dim: On.
8hrs in the office, 2hrs in car, the rest at home
Always in holster when not in use.
"Off" means that I have the device set to automatically turn off 11pm to 5am.
I tend to request all images for HTML based mail, but many of them are cached.
Day 1:
Charged overnight while off.
Turned on at 5am; 100% charge.
GPS off, BT off
3 phone calls (3-5 min each).
Beating the 9630/Tour against Google Sync - (several syncs).
20 or so e-mails total in and out.
10 BBM messages
No SMS, no MMS, no camera
No browsing
Off at 11pm. 70% charge
Day 2:
(did not charge overnight.)
Turned on at 5am; still 70% charge.
GPS off, BT off
no phone calls.
20 or so e-mails total in and out.
10 BBM messages
No SMS, no MMS, no camera
No browsing
Off at 11pm. 40% charge
Day 3:
Charged overnight while off.
Turned on at 5am; 100% charge.
*Turned on GPS*, BT off
20mi/30min of Google Maps (full screen bright, always on for that time)
Showing 90% at 9am
1 phone call 3min
20 or so e-mails total in and out.
10 BBM messages
No SMS, no MMS, no camera
Fought with Facebook server in -98dBm environ; thrashing between 1X and 1XEV.
Off at 11pm. 60% charge.
Day 4:
(did not charge overnight.)
Turned on at 5am; still 60% charge.
*GPS still on*, BT off
no phone calls.
20 or so e-mails total in and out.
5 BBM messages
limited browsing
Off at 11pm. 25% charge

Interesting results, thanks for posting. Can you let us know if you have encryption turned on (what strength?) and Content Compression? What about Memory Cleaning? I noticed those dramatically affect the life and unfortunately my company requires all of them.

I just got a new Tour and the battery is improved, pretty dramatically. I am now at 25% after 15 hours off charger. This is with about 90 minutes of voice, 50-60 emails coming in, an application install. Bluetooth radio on the entire time. Paired and talking for most of those 90 minutes of calls. GPS was **OFF**.
I am going to try IM+ (implus) to see if I can get further extension on the battery, in the place of Google Talk.
The goal here is to get 24 hours of fairly heavy usage so that I don't have to worry about charging between work and going out at night. If anyone from RIM happens to be reading, here's what I classify as heavy usage. If you can deliver this for 24 hours consistently, you've met my requirements:
GPS on. Bluetooth on. 3G on.
Bluetooth paired for 6 hours.
Talk for 3 hours, 50% on Bluetooth.
100 emails on BES/BIS.
10 emails sent from BB.
20 minutes of reading on an application like Viigo or WSJ.
15 minutes of browsing the web.
Google Maps ON all day, running in background reporting location.
IM Client on and running all day. If this can be done via push technology, even better. BB Messenger is great, but I need a solution that works for people without BBs.
Weather client receiving updates, again, push makes this better.

I think what impresses me the most is that you were able to keep the data to compile those stats. My BlackBerry 9630 is on 24/7. I usually plug it in with the device still on twice a day. By the time I plug it in, it's usually really getting low and I'm concerned about will I receive the next call. When in my car the Bluetooth automatically pairs and I use a Blue Ant with not in the car.
I've ordered an extra battery and vehicle charger from Sprint which should be in Monday. However, I haven't seen any extended batteries for the 9630 nor any cradle type chargers that can charge a battery while charging the phone.
Want to experiment on your battery life allow your six-year-old daughter to watch Sprint TV on the phone. Watching Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, etc. will kill the battery faster than a conference call on speaker phone.
