There is method posted to edit the LBX file to get Map back on 8310. However, that seems to treat the process like installing new OS. I am on BES. Does it mean I'd have to reactivate after that?

Just do a google search for BB maps. It'll give you a link. Plug your berry in and it'll load directly to your phone.

I've checked Status -> Advanced -> Applications. Blackberry Map is listed. So it's on the device. There is no icon for it. I am on BES right now. However, there is no icon before I get on BES (a week ago). This is not the original OS but 4.5 from a different vendor.

4.5 doesn't support BB maps as far as I know. I did a search about it awhile back and that was the conclusion. App will show listed but there is no icon as it cannot be used.

You'll have to go back to 4.2 if you want that app as far as I know.

why not just use google maps?

Search the forums. I have 4.5 on an 8310 and I have BB maps. I don't recall exactly, but you have to download/install an older version of BB maps. Somehow DM wants to install both versions but then you pick the older one in DM and it loads properly. My app list shows both BBmaps 4.5.0 and BBmaps LBS1.2, but I only have the icon for 1.2 You'll have to search for the thread. But I agree that Google maps is better.
