Default Tips on increasing battery life?

Please Login to Remove!

The battery on my bold seems to be dieing too fast. Any ideas / tips on what I could do to increase it?

Define fast.

How do you use it? Surf alot? Use a lot of data intensive apps? Are you in a 3G fringe area?

Close all apps rather than exiting out, especially those that use data.

I tend to do a lot of email. I am in 3G all the time. I will try closing all apps, but how do I currently know which ones are still open and using data?

Thank you.

Wirelessly posted (8820)

Bring up the ribbon and scroll through it. The core blackberry apps like phone and messaging and browser cannot be closed. Anything else you see is open. But also check the options in your aftermarket apps and see which ones are set to run in the blackground when closed. Change the option or figure out how to truly close the app.

[menu - menu - switch application]
or
[ALT- Escape (button right of trackball), keep holding alt and scroll through]
or
(if you have one of the latest OS's) [hold menu button]

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I get more life out of my battery when it's in the holster as opposed to riding in my pocket when not in use.

Pete, that would be because putting it in a holster, puts it to sleep, conserving battery.

Also u may have apps running in the background that auto update themselves. U may wanna turn off all auto updating inside each app (if the option is available). The less the phone uses it's "radio" the less drain on ur battery. Also...do u use a holster or not? big difference there as well.

Google Maps fries my battery. If I need it - I use it - then I restart the blackberry so it kills it.

Also Bing kills it - every time I use that I hit "menu" then "exit" when I am finished... otherwise it will keep running and fry the battery.

Also, make sure you hit "menu" then "close" for the browser.

I had a lot of trouble myself with this issue and it was a process of elimination to figure out what was doing it. By doing the above I now have way better battery life.

Good luck!
Sandy

I did that but for some reason it was still a problem for that Curve (I believe anyway)... I just got a 9000 and now have a different version of Google maps (updated) - I will try exiting that way on this one and see if I get better results. Because restarting was a drag...

Thanks!

I know I am not a heavy user, but I generally get 3-4 days out of my battery charge. I have a 8310 Curve, standard battery, Google Maps is probably the only 3rd party app I use on a regular basis.

The one thing I also do in addition to those mentioned in the link about long life, is put my BB to sleep at night from 11pm to 7am during the week and to 9am on weekend.

Auto On/Off isn't sleep (like holstering or holding the mute button it), it just turns the phone off.

I was wondering does the app "Facebook" burn a lot of battery? because I notice that when I keep it logged in and go out of it, it looks like it's not doing any connections and only connects when I go into the app.. even though it does have push messages...
