My old 8310 had a setting to lock on holstering. I can't find this on the 9700. Is that still available or do I have to hit the lock button each time, which is a pain.

Why do you need to lock? When you holster it, it goes into standby and the buttons are 'disabled'.

If that is true, then I don't need it. Just noticed that it was not locking when I holstered it and did not see the setting. If buttons are disabled and I am not dialing people by accident then all is good.
