So I use a blackberry for work and personal. And yes, in meetings, i will make myself look busy, ignore the meeting conversation, and do email and messenger.

the recent problem: Someone looks over and sees an avatar on Messenger and KNOWS that it isn't a work person or topic.

Is there anyway to disable the showing of pictures/avatars in BB Messenger?

Open messenger, menu > options > uncheck display pictures ...

What happens when you do that?

In 5.0.0.330 that doesn't exist. The only choice under display pictures is to replace callerID pictures with display pictures.

FYI, there is a new version, .56, available from www.blackberry.com/messenger. I just loaded it, but it too, does NOT have the option to disable the avatars.

I'm not really sure. Maybe it has something to do with activity level, Busy, Idle, Unavailable?

Are they friends that have confirmed your request?
