BES Version?

MDS Connection Service or MDS Intergration Service?

Are you trying to use your firm's internal proxy server / Intranet?

Then you are looking to set-up MDS-CS (connection Service).

Sorry, I can't help you with BES 5 though.

With MDS you can do many things. What are you trying to achieve? Browsing the Internet, push apps, push data?

You can choose the two MDS services at the installation time. Depending on what you want to do you have to configure them accordingly.

If you installed MDS during the installation.

I found that KB18680 from blackberry.com support was most useful. I'm not sure how to do a link here.

I am attaching a pic of my configuration.

Remember to start & stop the "BlackBerry MDS Connection Service" after configuration.

Hope it helps.

Did you install MDS Connection Services when you installed BES?
If so, is the MDS service running?

There's really nothing to configure. It just needs to be installed and running.

penguin is right. You need the have the MDS Connection Service installed.

If you have a proxy for Internet access, you need to configure the MDS Connection service to use the proxy.

Apart from that, it should just work.

FYI... BlackBerry MDS Integration Service for BlackBerry Enterprise Server has been declared End of Life by RIM..

End of Life for BlackBerry MDS Runtime and BlackBerry MDS Studio

Yes, that's for the Integration Service. But the MDS Connection Service (which is used for BB devices browsing the Internet) is not end-of-life.

So do devices need to have MDS runtime installed to be able to use MDS Connection Service to browse the web? Or as long as that service is running all browser requests will automatically go to that service for external access?

Wirelessly posted

No, you don't need the Mds runtime on the device.

Using the BlackBerry Browser, yes. That will flow through MDS-CS.

If you allow the Internet Browser on the device, that traffic will not use MDS-CS, but rather flow directly to the Internet using BIS.

Typical MDS-CS troubleshooting steps:

(1) Ensure the BlackBerry MDS-CS service is started.
(2) Browse to https://localhost:8080 to ensure you see that the MDS-CS configuration page is loaded fine on the machine where the MDS-CS is installed
(3) Configure any proxy on IE on the machine where the MDS-CS is installed and test accessing the same website the BlackBerry Browser is trying to access
