Default BB 9630 Not accepting drivers

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, this is my first post, but I'm not a newbie to BBs, but I'm open to ideas (hince this website

Here's the issue:

We have a bunch of BB 9630s with the 4.7.1.57 OS

We are not able to upgrade our BBs (secuirty policies by our company)

We are using BDM 4.2.18

Root Issue: When connecting the BB to the computer by USB, it asks for the drivers. I point windows to C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\RESEARCH IN MOTION\USB DRIVERS, but it does not take to it (states that it could not find any drivers for this device, etc...)

I have fully uninstalled the BDM, BBHH Drivers (for the 9630) and reinstalled them. I have even tried using BDM 5.0 and no joy.

I pulled the drivers from Sprints website and they did not work.

I tried a few different BBs (all same 9630s, 4.7.1.57 OS and all Sprint) and they all do the same thing.

Here's a kicker, tried it on different computers and still getting the same thing.

Am I missing something?

You need to install the latest BB Desktop Manager. Then install the OS for the 4.7.1.57 OS for the 9630. Really, all you need to get away from the driver prompt is Desktop Manager.

Here's something I've done so far...

- I uninstalled ALL blackberry software from the computer
- Used Regedit and removed Research in Motion from the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion

- Used Regedit and removed the BB software from the HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\UNINSTALL

- Deleted the Research In Motion folder from the C:\PROGRAM FILES and from C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES

- Deleted the RIM folder from the user's \docs&settings\appdata\
- Installed BB Desktop Manager v5.0.128
- Installed the Device Drivers from Sprint's website ver 4.7.1.57
- I connected the BB to the computer and device manager puts the BB in "Other Devices"
- I then pointed device manager to C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\RESEARCH IN MOTION\USB DRIVERS

- BB comes back stating that it could not find any appropriate drivers
- Still looking for any ideas....

RIM (there is no company bb) pulled the 5.0 WHAT?

Desktop Manager 5.0.1 is still there...

Software Name: Desktop Manager 5.0.1 B49 Multilanguage - With Media Manager
File Name: 501_b049_multilanguage.exe
Download Size: 258.503 MB
Published Date: 11/23/2009

And Sprint still has the 9630 5.0 handheld OS available for download.

I don't believe that what the store told you was accurate.
Or even truthful.

- Sorry about this lack of info (I keep forgetting to mention some important information)

- Ok: I am the IT guy at our location and have full admin rights to the box
- Box is XP SP2 (maybe SP3, but I would have to go check)
- USB ports do work (they have not been disabled)
- Here comes the kicker (and also why my head hurts from banging on this issue):
I can take another BB 9630 from Sprint with OS version 4.7.1.40 and it will work
without issue when I install the 4.7.1.40 OS drivers on windows.
Windows detects it and accepts the drivers that I put on.
But if I take the 9630 with OS ver 4.7.1.57 (and thats any BB with that OS), install
the appropriate drivers, windows will state that the driver is not applicable.

I did what John Clark stated. I removed all the BB software, installed the BB Desktop Manager v5.0.128 and the OS drivers v4.7.1.57 and connected the BB to the computer. That's when windows states that the driver is not applicable to the BB with OS ver 4.7.1.57.

I have even tried using verizon's drivers ver 4.7.1.61 and still no joy.

Ok,

I've done some short-cuts, so I'm not sure if this was the best thing for me to do. (there were some Blackberry programes still installed on the computer)

- Checked and found two files in the C:\WINDOWS\INF folder called OEM46.inf and OEM46.pnf. They pertain to Blackberries
- I deleted (recycle bin for safe keeping) the inf and pnf files for OEM46
- I reattached the BB to the computer
- Went to device manager and tried to point to the drivers: Still no joy, the drivers were not recognized
- I took the MSI file for the 4.7.1.57 BB and extracted it to a TEMP folder
- I pointed the BB to the drivers and still it would not accept them

- Tried to force the drivers and still no joy
- I'll be trying a more thorough attempt later on
