Default Upgrading cdo.dll and mapi32.dll on BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have an issue where the cdo.dll and mapi32.dll on our BES servers is a lower version than on our Exchange 2003 server. It happened after we migratged to a new Exchange cluster. The old was just a single Exch server. Some user are haivng issue when creating calendar events on the BB and them not showing in Outlook on their laptop.

The BES Server is v 4.1.6.19. BES cdo.dll is 6.5.7651.61, mapi32 is 6.5.7638.1
Exchange cdo.dll is 6.5.7654.12 and mapi32 is 6.5.7654.12

I've done lots of reading but am still confused as to the correct approach in updating the BES files. Hopefully someone can lists the steps or link to some thread that has the correct instructions. I did notice on the BES server that in Windows Update there are 2 specific non-cluster Exch updates (kb 959857 and kb 926666). Our Exch is now a cluster so I'm not sure if I should install those and if I do whether that would update those files to the correct level

Thanks

I had this same issue. I contacted support and they walked me through making sure that the same exchange updates that were applied to any other exchange servers in the company were also applied to the BES also.

Well, for starters, here is a KB on how to update your MAPI/CDO objects on the BES: KB15779 - View Document.

Is the new cluster 2007 or 2010? If so, there's no single document that will cover that for you, but the installing and configuring guides is a start. BES doesn't care if it's clustered or not, just the version.

No Exchange updates should ever go on the BES.

Let me specify... I believe it is typical to install the ESM on the BES.

The new cluster is an Exchange 2003.

I read that linked document and I'm still confused. Step 3 says to remove the ESM but no where does it say when to resintall it. Would that be step 10?

Thanks

You dont need ESM if using CDO 1.2.1

If I'm running a BES manager on a PC do I need to update anything on that as well or is updating the BES server all that is required?

Is it possible that after following the procedure to update the cdo and mapi32on the BES server that the version on the Exch cluster could be lower than the new ones on the BES? If so, what would I do then? I just ran MS Update on the new Exchange servers and there are no Exch specific updates that need to be installed.

Thanks

Just on the BES server only. it is ok to be higher than exchange as it is backwards compatable to 2003.

Ok, that was easy and calendar items are syncing properly. While I was fixing things I also upgrade to MR7 for SP6. Hopefuly that resolves my other issue of Folder Redirection settings changing on their own.

Thanks again
