Default Using desktop manager to push email

Please Login to Remove!

Do I need to have desktop manager running in order for it to sysnc my exchange email? Or is there any other part of the black berry applications that need to be logged into in order for it to sync my email? The reason I am asking is because we are deciding between BES or our users using desktop manager to take care of outlook mail. Now at the moment I do not have an activated black berry, as we do not have a sim here are work.

You need a data plan for each BlackBerry, either BIS (individual non-corporate users, like home users) or BES (Enterprise Server, run by corporations to provide employees with a data connection). With a BlackBerry data plan you do not need the Desktop Manager and Redirector to get your mail. DM + Redirector is a lousy solution, born at a time when there was no decent solutions for home users. It's flakey, plagued with issues, and is a kludge of a solution in general.

So how does BIS work, is that an alternative to using BES on a server to get exchange synced to our black berry phones? We are in a corporate environment and we manage 7 black berries currently, and we are trying to decide between having our users use dektop manager to sync exchange mail, or setting up BES express on our server(we currently have BES professional which is no longer supported). The reason we are thinking about making our Black Berry users use desktop manager is because we don't want to install another server if we don't have to.

Will desktop manager push exchange email wireless, or do you need to plug the black berry in through usb in order to sync exchange mail?

BTW, we have data plans on these phones.

you setup the BB's using BIS by using the OWA for the exchange account.

Desktop Manager doesn't sync or push mail at all.
It's not even an option for you.

BIS doesn't require an extra server of any kind. It's a service provided by RIM.
You create a BIS account, and it polls your Exchange mailbox via OWA, POP or IMAP.
If mail is found, it's pushed to your handheld.

If all you need is wireless mail delivery, then BIS is the best option for you.
You already have it if you have a BlackBerry Data Plan.

If you currently have BES pro, then go with BESX. With 7 users, it can be loaded on your Exchange server.

no you can't. You would need to use desktop manager for that, and manually sync.
