Default Device not recognized by Desktop Manager

Please Login to Remove!

9700, Windows XP, DM 5.1

Error: Blackberry desktop manager cannot communicate with the connected blackberry device

The device works fine as a USB mass storage device.

I've already:

1. uninstall-re-install DM
2. Other BB is recognizable
3. Rebooted PC
4. Rebooted BB
5. If I tried to update, it still shows no device

What else can I do here?

Thanks!

First, please update your profile to reflect the new device.

Are you plugging the BB into a HUB or directly into a USB port on the PC? Have you tried other USB ports?

Is this a new or used BB?

Did you try the SEARCH feature? http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ecognized.html

Are you using the BB cable that came with it?

I am also having the same similar problem with you, Cheerful.
I am hoping to upgrade my Rim 8100 for the first time, I downloaded and installed the BB desktop manager(Desktop Manager 4.7.0 B59 English - Without Media Manager) in my computer finally but it is not connecting together, I even tried with another computer system, but it is giving me the same problem. Although, my device works perfectly well as USB mass storage but with the desktop manager installed, it stand disconnected with my PC

Please, can anyone offer advice on a way out of this problem.

Have you tried re-installing or running a repair on the desktop manager installation?

Unless your not connected to a direct USB port and using a hub the below may help.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager requires a physical USB port to connect a BlackBerry device. Connection with Microsoft® Windows® in Emulation Mode or on a Virtual PC is not supported (for example, a Macintosh® computer running Microsoft Windows using parallel software, or Microsoft Windows being run under VMware®).

For Microsoft Windows 2000/XP

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click BlackBerry Device. Select Properties.
Click on the Drivers tab. Click on Update Driver.
In the Hardware Update Wizard, select No, not at this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or a specific location and click Next.
Remove the checkmark from the Search removable media checkbox.
Click on the Include this location in the search.
Click on Browse.
Browse to the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers and click Ok.
Click on Finish.
For Microsoft Windows Vista

Note: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Click on Start and click on Control Panel.
Click on System and Maintenance. Click on Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Double-click on BlackBerry Device.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
Browse to the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers and click Ok.
Click on Finish.
