Default Password Length/Security Timeout Questions

Please Login to Remove!

New 9700 user, upgrading from 9000. I previously was able to set my security timeout to 1hr. Now I'm limited to 15 min max, which forces me to unlock the phone far too often. This leads me to my next issue, which is the password. I prefer a short (4 char) password that provides security for my data if lost. I don't want or need a 7 char (mix of numbers and letters) password currently demanded by my 9700. And of course, now that I have enabled the password protection, I can't turn it off, and have to repeatedly punch in this loooong password every 15 min!

Anyone have any suggestions for extending the timeout or shortening the pass required?

v5.0.0.602 pltfm 5.1.0.112
At&t

Thanks!

It sounds that the security features on your phone are managed by the BES admin. And if these are your company's policies, then you have no choice but to comply.

That too. I guess it depends on how big the company is

The bigger - the slower and less responsive...

There's no such restrictions on a BlackBerry device unless the device was previously used on a BES and is loaded with an IT Policy.

You got this device brand new from AT&T?

Have you looked to see if you have an IT Policy installed on the device?

just cleared the "policy" using blackberry desktop manager using:

Device>Clear Data>Choose Selected Data>Check Policy>Uncheck Back up data before clearing>Clear

Still same situation. Contemplating Wipe/Reinstall.
