Default Migrating to BES 5 Transporter\CAL Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Currently we are on 4.1.6 and I have built 2 new servers for BES 5 so I can use HA. This will be a new DB\BES setup. I plan on using transporter to move users, but I want to be sure about something. From a CAL standpoint, I have 25 left on my 4.1.6 system. How do I move those CALs over to my BES 5 setup while using transporter while not knocking anything offline? Is there a set of temporary CALs that I can get from RIM for the BES 5 setup? Am I missing something here?

Thanks
Jeff

just copy from old and add into new.

its done on honor system and BES will not be locked out if you use CALs twice.

Click on BlackBerry Domain on the left pane.
Then in the right pane, select the 'Global' tab, expand 'Account', and choose 'License Management'.
You should see:
License Total:
Used:
Free:

or

From command-line, you can do the following:

bcp "select LicenseKey from BESMgmt.dbo.LicenseKeys where type = 0" queryout c:\licensekeys.txt -c -T -R -E -Sdbservername

That will export all installed license keys to the text file specified in the command. Just be sure to change dbservername to your SQL/MSDE server. This needs to be run from a server/machine that has bcp.exe installed, though (installed by default with SQL and MSDE installations).

Roger, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if that was the case regarding the honor system, it's been so long since I have had to do this. My memory was fuzzy...

Just to add on for benefits of all since this has been a FAQ when people are doing migration of users from old BES 4.1 to BES 5.0 using Transporter tool. As long as you are moving users from an old BlackBerry Domain to a new one (aka moving users from one BESMgmt database to another new one), then you can just merely copy over the CAL keys from the old BES to the new one.

Pictorially, for example:-

(1) BlackBerry Domain 1
--------------------------
SQL Server 1
Database: BESMgmt41
BES 4.1.7

(2) BlackBerry Domain 2
---------------------------
SQL Server 2
Database: BESMgmt50
BES 5.0.2

Also worth confirming that the Encryption algorithms on both domains are the same, ie. AES or AES+3DES or 3DES.
