Some carriers require you to have a BB data plan to get the WiFi service book. Perhaps yours is one of those?

Do you have Wireless on and does it scan and find the network?

Agree with Dubdub. Atleast once you have to get the data service so iit can push the service books. But then you can take sim out or drop data plan and your Wifi will work fine.

Not necessarily so - not on ATT, Verizon and probably several other carriers. They require you to have a BB data plan for WiFi to work correctly.
