Default Push app to BB that is restricted from downloading via policy.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

My issue of pushing apps to devices has been resolved but now I may have another issue. We have a BES (4.1.6.23) policy in effect on all BB's that disallows third party application downloads. I thought I could still create a software config and push it out. I can see the arrows going back and forth like the app is trying to download and install on the device but the install never happens. Without the policy I can push and it does install. Can I not push to and have the app installed on the device with that policy in effect?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You cannot deploy a third-party app to a device if it has an IT Policy which prohibits downloading of third-party applications.

Well, you learn something new everyday

So I would have to move them to the default policy, deploy the app, then move them back to the restricted policy? Hoping they don't notice and DL and install something else during the time they are in the default policy.

Thanks

No, that wouldn't be the best way to handle it, IMO.
A better way would be to use an application whitelist.
Instructions for setting up an application whitelist have been posted here a few times before. You can probably find them with a search.

In short:
1. Open up your IT policy to be able to install Third Party apps
2. Get an instalation package of your Apps. Cod & ALX
3. Import them in your BES as App, Perhaps change default App Control Policies
4. Create an Software Config for One or more Apps and set the Disposition for unlisted applications to Disallowed

Correct penguin3107 ?
So your whitelist would be your Applications you have imported. Or could I Make a list with just the name of the vendor or its Fingerprint ? Or perhaps just everything from the BB App Store ?
How do you get your Push packages. I have a view but some I cannot find. Is there a way to get them from a device on which you already installed them and manually create a ALX, zip it and upload it ?

Thanks, I Appriciate your opinion
