Does anyone have a reliable source for a 9700 OEM battery? I'd like to have a backup on hand. I see them advertised on the web from $2.99 up to $29+, but don't know who is a reliable company to deal with.

I find that the Seidio batteries are better as they last longer than OEM ones. I have been buying them as replacements since the 7100 series BB.

Have you tried craigslist? They usually have them going for 10$ - 25$ for OEM batteries

eBay has some really cheap one, just got one recently.

Amazon.com has some OEM batteries for less than $11+shipping. Got one few weeks ago and works great!
