Talking Great info

Thanks so much everyone, your advice really is priceless.
I think I will go with the BB 8700 and hope that my hubby likes it.
Still deciding on whether I should go with TMobile or Cing though.

Keep in mind that only Cingular has the 8700 right now. Several posters here say you can get the 8700 and then buy the unlock code from a 3rd party and then operate on T-Mob.

Who do you believe? Everyone is saying the same thing. If you want the 8700 you have to go with Cingular unless you pay to have it unlocked and use Tmob.

I think you misunderstood me, and I also misunderstood the above quote. I guess when he says "severel posters here say you can....." I guess just because someone "says" that you can, doesn't mean that you can. I haven't read all of the posts on this board yet, there are so many. And such great advice. I am finding myself getting addicted to this board, and the blackberry isn't even for me, it's for my wonderful hubby. He has no clue I'm even getting him a blackberry, let alone doing all this research before I buy one.
I just want to make sure that I buy him the best of the best that is available, including the service. If T-Mobile is better, and I can buy to have the phone unlocked I will do that. Otherwise I will use Cingular. Money is no option for me, my hubby is worth the expense. I'm not rich, but have some extra money laying around for this.

miamoss, do not listen to sundarban1. If you are concerned then look on this forum at all of the lawsuit information to put your mind at ease. Keep working on getting your husband that blackberry. He will love it and his ability to keep in touch with a family that obviously cares for him deeply.

Here is a breakdown:

8700c-Free from Amazon/Buy.com, service on Cingular only, unless:
You must buy an unlock code to use the 8700c on T-Mobile. Keep in mind with some of the rebates to get it free you'll need a min. amount of time on the provider's network.

7100t, 7105, or 7290-Are free on FTD with flower purchase and rebate. Devices used must be T-Mobile. Again a minimum of time activated on the network and min. contract plan is required.

Hope that helps

Great information, thanks so much. I just hope that the "FREE" phones are just the same as the "Pay for" phones. (meaning they don't leave out any cool features). I'm sure either way, I will be locked into some sort of a 1 or 2 year plan, so that doesn't worry me too much.
Do you happen to know where, who, and how much it is to get the "unlock" code from?
Thanks
Mia

You bought one? Or you got the free one?
Which one did you get the 8700?
How does the wife like it?

Miamoss,
There is nothing different, you pay up front for the phone and get rebates, either instant ones or ones after you fufill a certain amount of time with the carrier. Read all the information carefully.

T-Mobile new activations are usually ony 1 year unless it has changed recently.

JUST READ ALL THE INFORMATION. Works like any other rebate(s). Just make sure you talk to the provider.

As far as unlock codes do a search for "unlock codes", this should help locate a place. I have never needed to unlock a phone so I cant really help you there

Great then! I can't see any reason to pay $299 for a blackberry that I can get for absolutely free. I will definitely read the fine print though.
Thanks so much again.

sundarban1

Shutting down on America's blackberry does not necessarily mean RIM is going to out of business.

Get a life!

I have some friends who are using BB in Gulf and they are very happy., They would never take Treo or HP PDAs pver BB.
Also you better double check that the Cingular will unlock it right away so that he can use it in gulf. Cingular will require atleast 3 months service before they will unlock it. but some time they do it.
Cingular's service could be pricey but atleast it works. T-Mo in gulf ??don't have much idea. In US it worked perfectly for me. I tried t-mo in 4 different countries and did not have good luck. They might be better in gulf.
Also Best way to stay in contact while outside US is thru BB Messenger which is free between two BB users.

I almost asked Mia this morning if she knew someone who had relatives in the area who could tell her which provider to go with. Who do your friends use?
