My Blackberry Torch just came in the mail today. I put the sim card in my current phone and copied the contacts to it. Now I have the Blackberry charging. I will then activate the new phone!

Any advice on what I should do then. Should I connect it to the computer for updates?

Any advice to make this transition smooth is greatly appreciated!

Did you have a BlackBerry data plan put on your account? If not, FYI see What do I need a Data Plan for? - BlackBerryFAQ.

My advice would be to hold off on doing an OS upgrade until you have a few weeks behind you. Just start playing with the device.

My other advice is forget what you know from other PDA's and smartphones. Start over from scratch with BlackBerry. Go through all the menus and drill down. Do the same in options. If you don't understand something, go to the help app. And usually, selecting help from a menu will open the help app to the section on the screen you are looking at.
