The recent outages of bbm obviously mean it is not working.

But if I was to pay for a small hosted BES, could I use bbm through the BES, making it faster and less prone to message not sending problems

Private BBM Server could be great for getting around issues like this.

Nope BBM is a network feature unrelated to whether you have BES or not, which is why users on BES or BIS are both having issues (in EMEA) with BBM connectivity...

If it did work that way you would only be able to BBM with people on your BES.
