Yesterday morning my 8900 failed when attempting to back up my device it just blanked out and began to show the error 454 message and was continuously cycling on and off when connecting to my desktop while attempting to restore.

it bagan to backup but at some point during the connectioin it failed on me. but i do beleive some of my info might be in the desktop mgr ... just need to know how to rereive it. or if its in there somewhere at all..

after several hours on and off i could not get it to work with the lateste desktop software on my work PC so i went home and when i tried to load back up and restore with an older version of desktop manager after a while the device came back to life with the latest OS... so it works now but is COMPLETELY BLANK.... this completely ruins me as i had 300 contacts the media files and messages that i needed. messages and apps are the least of my worries... my contacts is what i need to retreive..
see below if it is in any of these related files or folders maybe the IPD file but how would i go about putting that back in my BB alone? since it crashd in the middle of the operation.. if thats even possible

..thanks in advance for any info after hrs of searching for info i just had to post..

Try wiping the device with JL_CMDER (or BBSAK). See blackberryfaq.com. If you are able to wipe and achive 507 error, reload the device software (the OS).

If the BlackBerry or Desktop Manager or whatever crashed during the backup, that backup is lost.

The .ipd file is a backup file. Once you have reloaded the OS on the device, use Desktop Manager to restore the most recent backup.

that error number based on RIM's info indicates you exceeded the amount of email if your on a corporate BES service.

If you have a valid backup as suggested by aiharkness, you should be able to restore your info.

right. so the .ipd file shown as loaderbackup should be the back up information?

it did crash while restoring... but i have that file showing and im wondering if it caught most/some of my stuff?

if so is this pulled with teh destop manager in a certain way or do i need to just drag n drop or?

alright. so i got it going.


i think the problem was my BBdesktop manager or all the usb ports on that PC. it harldy ever connected and this is the same PC that crashed out my phone initially causign it to half way through the back up loose all info.

Thankfully the .IPD file shown had alot of my stuff on it. some media more importantly my 500+ contacts.

since the file was too big to email to get on my home PC i saved it in a flash drive then loaded the old BB desktop manager. and comenced to load it into my device. i guess the file is a bit large and it too also ocaused to old bb msng to crash half way through the restoring... but once i disconnected an re-started the phone VOILA all my stuff was back on with the EXCEPTION of any TXT and EMAIL messages. when those were going through is when the program was having its glitch... which is fine.

so i guess the lesson is to basically get that IPD somehow so you can retreive some info at least.

also learned to not keep as much crap on the actual device... contacts and messgaes are enough to bog up the system i guess... ill just re do all my settings...

Five hundred contacts is no problem. That wasn't the issue. Think about it.

Sounds to me like the problem was that computer.

my 500+ contacts is only what i was able to retreive. some media and emails were lost but retained my bookmarks....

so a back up file that large or bigger should not be an issue? may be the desktop software being corrupt somewhat?

I'm saying contacts don't take up a lot of memory, relatively speaking. Not even if you had a couple of thousand.

Generally you are right about not loading up on junk and deleting what you don't need. Just recognize where the potential problems are and where they aren't.
