Default Review: Verizon 7130e Plastic Holster (RIM7130HOL)

Please Login to Remove!

After almost a month of "dealing" with the slip case holster that came with the unit, I had enough. Since I am a new blackberry user, I am accustomed to plastic holsters for my cell phones. It's my muscle memory setting (have had cell phones since 94?)

Description: The holster is plastic, though, it doesn't feel plasticky.. It actually almost feels alittle like rubber.. Maybe a little rubberized? The clip rotates and seems very sturdy. The 7130e clicks in and stays very snug.

This is an image of the 7130e in the holster

This is the left side view with the mini-usb and mic available.

This is the right side view with the scroll wheel and escape.

This is the clip side view with the 7130 inserted

The clip swivels with "clicks"- like a rachet. It doesn't do a 360, but from the upright, you can click 3 times counter as well as clock wise (to get to the horizontal mode). There are two clicks (positions) between vertical and horizontal.

Here is a picture of the holster with the phone and battery cover off.. I'm not sure what the extended battery door looks like, but I assume it should work with the extended battery.

You can, don't know why, insert the phone face out:

This is a picture of the holster by itself

Not sure if you can tell in the previous picture, but there is an indentation in the inside of the case. I was able to, as a test, tape a small magnet to the inside of the case, and it actually doesn't touch the keypad, but does enable the sleeper function.

As it goes, I'm new to blackberry, and am trying to understand the benefit of the function. I hate typing in the password everytime I take the device out of the case, even though I just put it in! (it's a corporate requirement, and can't/don't want to remove it). I set the timeout to 15 minutes, and that's fine with me.

The big minus, IMHO, it's $20!! For a stinking piece of plastic!! But hey, if you build it they will come.. I think it would be a great deal for $10, but $20 seemed alittle steep. There's no RIM badging, just Verizon Wireless in two places.. On the clip and on the inside of the holster. On the back, in the plastic, it also says Made in China (not a sticker).. But hey, what isn't made in China nowadays anyway.

DUH, after rereading my post, I wondered.. If there is a security option that allows me to holster and not automatically lock.. Well what do you know...

Maybe I will glue the magnet in afterall.

It looks nice but I would be concerned that the snap-clip at the top will cause scratching/marks on the top of the BB each time you holster it.

I just got the 7130 leather clip case from Verizon and its not bad. The flap is a bit big but its better than the RIM OEM leather case w/flap I have been using. On that case the magnet flap closure at the top caused messages to be marked as read when unholstering within 15 seconds. It was very annoying.

I just got my 7130e last week, and I really like the case. I rarely have the problem of hitting keys when inserting the unit (I had the same problem on occasion with the 7250). I don't know if they re-engineered the case, but I like it!

Seeing as I didn't want to wait for Verizon to come up with their own cases (took them long enough!) I just got my holster from the accessories store on the Blackberry website:

http://www.shopblackberry.com/_black...y%207130e&pid=

I tend to prefer OEM accessories over what verizon offers, which is frequently knock-off stuff at higher prices anyway.

I have the same problem, but have found that if you remove the phone very quickly from the case, the magnet will not "double-trip".

Just an FYI on the snap in case. Unless they changed it, Verizon's case did not have a magnet in the case to put your 7130e into sleep mode while in the case. Main reason I did not get it! It is a cool case though!!!

Your local Verizon store should have it.

My local store doesn't know anything about this case. I called Verizon also and they do have them.

My store said the same thing until I asked them to go look in the back. He came out with one and said they had several in the back. I told him I needed 50 and he actually had that many in stock!

I had one of these plastic holsters from Verizon and did not like it for many reasons, especially since there's no sleeper magent. You may want to check my review on the Seidio holster

Sorry, I guess I never mentioned it (been getting a few personal messages). I got this from a Circuit City Verizon Kiosk. The holster is Verizon badged in 2 places - on the inside of the holster (BB side), and on the clip. I believe the verizon part number on the package was RIM7130HOL or something like that (already threw the box out). The taped on magnet actually worked well for me, so I actually removed the tape and superglued the magnet to the holster.

Regarding the possibility of the top snap clip scratching the unit, I guess you can always push the clip back while inserting. I don't, and have been "snapping" it into the holster.. No scratches from the holster yet (I have scratches from dropping the phone... :( ), and it's been almost a month of daily use.

I would be cautious about this kind of clip. It works well initially, but over time might see some fatigue/wear that allows the BB to pop out if bumped or caught on something (seatbelt, purse strap/computer case strap), especially if it is horizontal. I got a nice drop in BB holder for the 7130 that has a built in magnet and a flap that comes over the top. Works pretty well. Verizon had it.

Just talked to a co-worker and his employees have broken the top tab on three of these holders in only a couple weeks use. Seems pretty cheap to me.

I came back to this thread to make a negative comment, then I saw your post. Yes, my top clip broke yesterday.. Very upsetting.

So I had the case for roughly 1 month, and the clip has broken. Not only that, but without the top clip, the blackberry would not stay "in" the holster. So what I have now is 2 pieces of worthless plastic. I knew I paid too much.

The other thing I noticed was that sometimes inserting the bb into the holster, and it catches your shirt, it will not stay.

The one good thing I discovered is that the 7130e takes a beating just as well as my motorola cell phones. The clip broke while the 7130e was in it. The phone dropped onto a marble floor and was fine.

A co-worker purchased the http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s...essoryId=20002 leather case with magnetic closure and swivel clip and on Thursday the clip snapped. He was getting his coffee in the morning and I was there when it happened so it wasn't like it was dropped or pulled or abused - it just snapped. He went across the street to the Verizon store at lunch where he purchased it (and we both purchased our 7130e's) and they did nothing other then offer to sell him another one.

I'll stick the stock holder for now.
