I have owned Motorola razr's, a much better quality unit. But nokia's built quality are the best. The 8700 seems to lack fit and finish, gap tolerence,etc.

1. The battery door is always loose.
2. Poor quality plastics, the 7290 feels more solid.
3. Blemish on battery door, how did this get out of the factory?
4. The side trim has a bad fit when the key board light is on you can see light through the edge of the trim.
5. Over all feel is weak/cheap.

I don't want to turn this into a Bash the 8700 thread, but I was recently lent a 7100t for use while I wait for my 8700's unlock code. I have to say, the build quality of this 7100t is much better than either of my 8700c's. The plastic and case construction is much more solid on the 7100t.

That said, I really am missing the full QWERTY keypad and EDGE networking. I'll still take the 8700c over the 7100t any day.

I have a 8700C and a 7100g and there is no doubt that the 7100 is built better than the 8700. The 7100 is by no means tha best built phone or best built pda that I've ever owned, but it is better than the 8700.

I do tend to agree to the minor quality issues, but what other device out there do you find a battery length of a week, reception never a problem, and a device that rarely freezes. It isnt a metal unit so it can not be compared to a Razr, and for that matter I work for Rogers and I see ALOT more Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, And Ericsson in for repairs then I do Blackberry. For what the 8700 offers, and how well it works, I feel it destroys any thought of a poor quality unit. Not to mention RIMS warrenty coverage is like no other, your unit doesnt work, call them up, they will try to fix it, if no go they will send you a new unit and get you to send the old one in the box. I call that impressive.

Treo's warrenty even though they claim its a 1 year warrenty they only tend to cover 3 months of usage because (and I quote) "They expect the customer to have messed up the device after 3 months"

I've owned ALOT of phones in the past year working for Rogers, and there is no device that I would go back to after using the 8700. Anyways, that was my rant. Have a nice day.

for my pt of view, I would rather 8700 have the same look as 7250, and as functional as the new 8700, perfect match! haha!

I have constantly said the same thing and I sure as heck hope that someone from Verizon has been following these threads. I know that if the 8700 is released on a 7250 based template it will simply be awesome.

I missed dust because my unit is new and there is no dust yet. What is the best way to prevent dust, will a case help? How about a screen film? Where does the dust come in from, keyboard?

Yea the 8700 has about the worst build quality I have ever seen in a phone. I realy hate the gaps. They should have just used 2 plastic halves instead of the black in the middle.

Yea, I don't know what the canada part is about, but in any case... I'm still waiting for TMO to offer the 8700, and I'll get it as soon as I can. As for the build quality, it doesn't really have to last that long for me anyway. Because in 6 months, I'll be replacing it with the Blackberry with 1.3MP camera! j/k

Blackberry with 1.3mp camera? never no way!!!! cameras and mp3's are for infants, teenagers not executives. I would not be caught dead with a camera phone!! This is a business tool not a toy!!!! As for the canada comment, I am a proud canadian born and raised and live a few minutes from waterloo the birth place of blackberry, so i was just wondering if these phones were made in my backyard. To be honest i am proud of the 7290 and 7100 but not so for the 8700.

I think the 8700c is the best unit I ever owned. I have had a 7290, 7100, and now an 8700c. I have had palm pilots and Dell Axims and none compare.

The unit is solid yet light and slim. It holds up to drops and kids who throw it across the room. I have one minor scratch on the holster from brushing against a brick wall and the unit has one minor scratch on the face but all-in-all with the screen protector on it I think it looks brand new.

I have had this unit since November 26th and I have no dust. The keyboard is tight the cover is tight, nothing rattles or feels loose. It's just a solid well built unit. I think of all units owned, the 7100 was the "Cheapest" build quality, but it did hold up pretty well to abuse too.

Any way, 8700c is well built and worth every penny... IMHO.

I think thats what it really boils down to. If the phone doesn't feel as solid, thats still ok as long as it doesn't break down. Looks can be deceiving.

Come on... To Americans, Canada and Mexico are the same thing. Just countries on the other side of their borders that smugglers and terrorists have no problem getting accross.
